Current NXT Champion Oba Femi made his in-ring debut on the main roster back on December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event. ‘The Ruler’ went one-on-one with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in a champion vs. champion non-title showdown. While it didn’t go the distance with Drew McIntyre assaulting Rhodes in an anticlimactic end, Femi still came out of SNME looking like a million bucks.

An update has emerged regarding the Nigerian wrestler’s standing among WWE higher-ups following his recent main roster stint. As per BodySlam, the company officials were unbelievably impressed by the 28-year-old from Lagos by virtue of his appearances on SmackDown and Saturday Night’s Main Event. And as seen over the past week, WWE has aired vignettes for Femi both on Raw and SmackDown.

It was noted in the report that Oba Femi is seen on par with Bron Breakker as far as the company’s next breakout star is concerned. Breakker has been repeatedly hailed as a sure-shot WrestleMania main eventer someday, and he could win his first world title on the main roster next Monday should he beat CM Punk. Circling back to Femi, he’s expected to be called up to the main roster pretty soon.

The longest-reigning NXT North American Champion is being backed as a special case and a main-event-level player for many years to come in WWE. Femi is currently slated to defend his NXT title against Leon Slater at New Year’s Evil on January 6. ‘The Bringer of War’ had won the championship gold back from Ricky Saints at Deadline over three weeks ago after having dropped it to Saints in the first place at No Mercy in September.

Is WWE planning Oba Femi to screw over Drew McIntyre against Cody Rhodes?

On the January 9 episode of SmackDown, Drew McIntyre will challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE in a Three Stages of Hell match. It’d be the first of its kind on the main roster since 2013. The fans’ eyes are peeled on the outcome of this match, with the majority hoping for McIntyre to walk out of Berlin with the world title.

However, there’s major skepticism among wrestling circles about WWE actually pulling the trigger with the Scotsman after making him fall short on numerous occasions at various points over the past couple of years. But after having lost a couple of title matches against Rhodes, it’s almost necessary for McIntyre to milk out a result in his favor this time around.

But there’s a certain someone who could rain on McIntyre’s parade. And he’s none other than the man who incurred collateral damage at Saturday Night’s Main Event—Oba Femi. Who knows if Femi would’ve caused the upset of the year by beating Rhodes had McIntyre not interfered? ‘The Ruler’ might be harboring a bit of scorn and animosity toward ‘The Chosen One’ for not letting him finish what he’d started with ‘The American Nightmare’.

Debuting Oba Femi in such a capacity against McIntyre would not only allow him to work with a top-level heel like the Scot right off the bat, but it’d also protect McIntyre’s stock by not losing clean to ‘The Prodigal Son’ once again. Femi costing the Scottish grappler is merely a fan theory at this point, and it’d be interesting to see if it’s the actual working plan.
