It took Oba Femi just over two months to reclaim the NXT title. ‘The Ruler’ upstaged Ricky Saints in the main event of the Deadline PLE on Saturday night in San Antonio. Even though the former AEW star threw the kitchen sink at Femi, the latter came prepared.

The Nigerian wrestler beat a near 10-count to roll back into a Famouser by Saints, but Femi survived. During the closing moments, ‘The Absolute One’ sprinted toward the 27-year-old only to be lifted up by the former shot putter for a Fall From Grace.

Femi went for the cover, and it was enough to fetch him the NXT Championship. He has avenged that No Mercy title loss from Saints that saw the ‘Stroke Daddy’ upset ‘The Ruler’ in late September. After the match ended, Saints and Femi shook hands as a gesture of mutual respect. What does that win entail for Femi?

Not only has it made him a 2-time NXT Champion, but it has also secured the hulking figure an opportunity of a lifetime. Having said that, ‘The Ruler’ will now go one-on-one with the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in a champion vs. champion match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.

‘The American Nightmare’ had already confirmed on this week’s SmackDown that the winner of Femi vs. Saints at Deadline will get to wrestle him on John Cena‘s final night as an active performer in WWE. ‘The Cenation Leader’ announced during a promo on Raw in Boston that main roster WWE stars will hold exhibition matches against the best NXT has to offer at SNME to pave the way for the future of this business.

It was Cena’s suggestion to highlight talent from NXT and not make everything about himself on a night where he would compete in a WWE ring for the last time. Someone like Oba Femi could really make the most of the opportunity in front of him. He’s slated to take on the so-called ‘Quarterback of WWE’ in front of the largest crowd he’s ever competed in to date.

Big E reacts to Oba Femi’s title win at NXT Deadline

Oba Femi’s stellar title-winning display against Ricky Saints has the fans in awe, and rightfully so. But they’re not alone, as Big E has also joined the party. The former WWE Champion took to X and hailed ‘The Ruler’ as a main-eventer on any brand he’s on. The real-life Ettore Ewen called for many more world titles to come his way in the future. And for someone who’s just 27, it’s not a hyperbole.

The majority of the fans have a firm belief that Oba Femi is main roster ready. In fact, there was some speculation about Femi losing to Ricky Saints at Deadline and eventually getting called up by either Raw or SmackDown. However, it doesn’t seem likely for probably another few months or until after WrestleMania 42.

But Femi wouldn’t have to wait that long to leave a mark on the main roster audience, with him set for a Cody Rhodes showdown next weekend. As exciting a prospect as it looks on paper, the fans aren’t expecting a clean finish to it. WWE continued Rhodes’ feud with Drew McIntyre on SmackDown, with the ex-AEW EVP launching a sneak attack on the Scot inside his car.

‘The Scottish Psychopath’ will be looking for revenge, and what if he screws over Rhodes against Femi at Saturday Night’s Main Event? That would kill two birds with one stone, as in getting Femi a gargantuan win over ‘The American Nightmare’ with the latter not even looking weak if McIntyre does indeed take him out.
