Odisha FC sack head coach Baxter following his inappropriate comments
Odisha FC have decided to sack head coach Stuart Baxter after his controversial remarks. His comments came in his post-match conference as Odisha lost 1-0 against Jamshedpur.
The club, on Tuesday, announced that an interim coach for the remainder of the season will be named shortly. Odisha FC are currently at the bottom of the pile with only eight points from 14 matches.
Stuart Baxter’s management skills were also under scrutiny
Odisha coach, Stuart Baxter used an offensive analogy about rape while talking about a referring decision in the game. According to him his side did not have the referee’s backing in the whole game and went on a rant in his post match analysis.
“You need decisions to go your way and they didn’t,” Baxter said on Star Sports. “I don’t know when we’re going to get a penalty. I think one of my players would have to rape someone or get raped himself if he was going to get a penalty.”
Odisha FC were quick to apologise for their coach’s offensive description of the matter at hand. Odisha tweeted: “It is completely unacceptable whatever the context and does not reflect the values of the club. We, at Odisha FC, unreservedly apologize and the club management will handle this matter internally.”
The poor performance alone might have enough to trigger a sacking, but the tasteless comments last night appears to have caused the club management to take an immediate step to remove him.
Odisha next face ATK Mohun Bagan on 6th February and will be under the management of a new coach.
