“Holy, this guy’s for real,” Oilers celebrate Connor McDavid’s 1000 points milestone in game against Predators

Thursday evening marked a special day in Edmonton as Oilers captain Connor McDavid recorded his career’s 1000th point. The historical moment came during their game against the Nashville Predators as the Oilers won 3-2 in OT at Rogers Place.
The Oilers fans did not only get to see their captain celebrate, but it also extended the team’s winning streak in the ongoing season. McDavid’s teammates Leon Draisaitl and Darnell Nurse became key figures of the night as they assisted in his record point.
Draisaitl and Nurse are both teammates who have been with McDavid since the beginning. Apart from all the other players present on the ice, and the fans, his father Brian was also present in the stands.
The incident took place during the second period when Draisaitl assisted McDavid in shooting the puck right behind the Predators goalie Scott Wedgewood. With permission from the NHL, the rink was flooded with Edmonton Oilers players rushing in to celebrate on ice.

Later, Connor McDavid also assisted in the OT winning shot by Nurse as the team celebrated on a double occasion. During Todd McLellan’s stint with the Oilers, he saw McDavid at the summer development camp in Rexall Place and was immediately in awe.
He recalled saying how McDavid seemed like someone “from another planet” and stood out even among the hundreds of rookies there. He remembers thinking, “Holy, this guy’s for real.”
Fast forward to his draft with the Oilers to his NHL debut and finally his 1000th career milestone, it’s been a long journey for McDavid. What made the moment more special was it happened in front of the home crowd with all his loved ones in attendance.

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid became one of the fastest active and youngest NHL players to reach the 1000th milestone. He became the 4th to do so at 27, joining NHL legends Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Steve Yzerman in the process.
Leon Draisaitl also acknowledged the moment as “legendary” saying he’s grateful to be part of it. During all their time together Draisaitl, McDavid, and Nurse built a special bond among others that was celebrated on Thursday night.

When asked if he believes McDavid will cross the 2000th milestone, Draisaitl said will certainty, “If not him, who else?” Even if it takes a couple more years or longer, Draisaitl trusts it’s a feat McDavid will surely accomplish.
