Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Michael Jordan

Over the past couple of seasons, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has emerged as one of the NBA’s top players, and he has showcased his skills with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Shai’s impressive performances have led to comparisons with Michael Jordan, basketball’s GOAT, a distinction not easily earned.

Although Shai Gilgeous-Alexander may not consider Michael Jordan the best in NBA history, Jordan’s legendary stats and accolades of 30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game, along with six championships and five MVPs have set a high bar for any player aiming for greatness. But according to LA Clippers coach Ty Lue, SGA reminds him of His Airness.

As a younger player, you can tend to get out of control or try to get my points. He knows it’s going to come to him the style they play, he knows the ball’s going to come back… But he knows that at any point in time he can take over the game. He reminds you a lot of the greats like [Michael] Jordan.

Coach Ty Lue said in an interview with ESPN

SGA, like Jordan in his early years, has shown a similar hunger and drive, as he has averaged numbers close to those of the Chicago Bulls legend. Jordan’s aggressive yet calculated approach allowed him to dominate games when needed, which created a foundation of success for the Chicago Bulls.

The OKC Thunder guard’s journey to stardom began with the LA Clippers in the 2018-19 season before he was traded to Oklahoma City in a blockbuster deal that involved Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. Since joining the Thunder, he has only improved, culminating in a near-MVP season last year where he averaged 30.1 points, 6.2 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leads Thunder to victory over Clippers with historic performance

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder rebounded from their Sunday night loss to the Golden State Warriors with a strong victory over the LA Clippers on Monday. Despite missing center Chet Holmgren, who suffered a hip fracture in the previous game, OKC clinched its ninth win of the season.

Gilgeous-Alexander scored a career-high 45 points along with nine assists, three rebounds, five steals, and two blocks, and made NBA history in the process.

According to StatMamba on X, Gilgeous-Alexander became the first player in NBA history to record such a performance. The All-NBA guard has continued to prove his elite status this year, with Monday’s game further solidifying his case for another All-NBA selection. The Thunder also improved to 2-0 against the Clippers, having already secured a win against them at the Intuit Dome earlier in the season.

This victory was largely fueled by OKC’s defensive pressure, with Gilgeous-Alexander tallying five steals and the Clippers committing 23 turnovers. While LA had a solid shooting night, their turnovers ultimately cost them. Now, the Clippers head to Houston to take on the Rockets as they aim to regain momentum.
