There seems to be no stopping the Oklahoma City Thunder at the moment. Coming off a 68-win season, the OKC have made a red hot start to this campaign as well. The defending champions are currently at 17-1 and sit at the top of the Western Conference standings, 3.5 games over second-place Denver Nuggets.

With 64 games left for the regular season, OKC will definitely be eyeing the NBA record 73-9 held by the Golden State Warriors. Only two teams have gone on to have a 70-win season. One being Stephen Curry’s Warriors that hold the NBA record and the other being Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls, who went on to win 72 games in 1996.

Given how dominant OKC have been so far, a 70-win season is very much on the cards. And they have been pulling this off without their second best player, Jalen Williams. Williams, who made his first All-Star appearance last season, is yet to make an appearance this campaign after having a wrist surgery during the offseason.

Former NBA champions with Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 and ESPN analyst Richard Jefferson advised the champions on the Road Trippin’ Show and asked them to prioritize health over chasing the regular season record.

If they want to repeat don’t go 70. There is no team that is naturally good to win 70 games without having to turn the flame up a little bit. They gotta go a little hard, saying that becomes an achievable goal. That’s why it has only been hit twice in NBA history and only one of those teams won. If you gotta go through Houston, the Lakers and Denver, forget the 70, get to number one seed, chill out and then go rev it up again.

Dallas Mavericks are in an embarrassing situation

Everything has gone from bad to worse for the Dallas Mavericks. It all started with the trade of Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis. This season, the team are currently 14th in the Western Conference with a 5-14 record. Injuries to Anthony Davis and long term absentee Kyrie Irving have made everything a lot harder offensively for the Mavs.

To go along with all the poor on-court performances, the firing of general manager Nico Harrison has shown that everything is not okay even off the court. On Road Trippin’ Show, Kendrick Perkins had a few words to share about the Mavs:

The Dallas Mavericks are becoming or has become one of the most embarrassing situations in sports. Real talk. I mean, we are talking about a team that are two years removed from the NBA finals. A team where people used to want to run to be a part of the organization. Now it seems like people are running away.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for MVP?

Reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous Alexander has been on a rampage this season and is on course to winning consecutive MVP awards as he currently averages 32.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.6 assists this season. He remains in the hunt for another scoring title as he is only behind Luka Doncic and Tyrese Maxey at the moment.

Prior to this season, SGA had a historic 2024-25 campaign. The Canadian won the league MVP, scoring title, Finals MVP and the NBA championship. He has scored less than 30 points only three times this season and is averaging almost a point per minute despite not being a volume three-point shooter.

It looks like the race for the MVP award will be between Nikola Jokic and SGA once again as both players picked up from where they left off. Luka Doncic will be looking to crash the party as the Los Angeles Lakers have made a strong start and the Slovenian will be looking to win his first MVP award.
