After double-knockout losses, most think Alexander Volkanovski’s best moments are behind him. He meets red-hot Diego Lopes in a five-round PPV headliner clash at UFC 314. However, Volk is here to prove he is still a top contender. Even against a new school of fighting class.
‘Old Man‘ Alexander Volkanovski can start another lineal reign in the April 12 UFC 314 PPV at Kaseya Center. He and Lopes fight for the soon-to-be vacant 145-pound strap. The Aussie legend now claims that he still has it in him and will mean to prove it.
And then [we’re] hearing talk about maybe him moving up [Topuria], …Cause it’s just negotiations, or what’s going on. So did not think too much into in it; We’re still game-planning for Ilia. And then we’re hearing, you know, could it maybe be Lopes…At this stage I’m like ‘Oh, give me anyone!’ I wanna get that win back but I also wanna prove I can beat this new school.

The last time “Great” fought, Ilia Topuria knocked him out at the UFC 298 PPV headliner in Anaheim and bagged gold. However, Volkanovski has always stayed ready, and even doused that a title match was next in line. Be it Topuria or Lopes, the competition now marks a younger generation of fighters and breakout stories. However, even if he once considered otherwise, Team CKB NZ’s Volk stays ready for the challenge.
Volk went 5-0 in title defenses in his first reign. With the vacant UFC featherweight title up for grabs, he wants to do it again, Concurrently, it would be quite a thing if he can come out better than the younger crop in active contention. There are many who consider him levels above Diego Lopes.
Alexander Volkanovski ‘going to whoop that a**’ at UFC 314 PPV, says former champ and new featherweight
13-3 in UFC, Volkanovski could soon meet his match in a younger Diego Lopes at UFC 314. The duo was booked for a PPV title event after Topuria decided to vacate and try his luck at 155 pounds. The matchup has drawn the attention of prime names.

Unbeaten Movsar Evloev, for example, says even operating at 50% of his prime, Volk gets the job done. Lobo Gym MMA’s Lopes himself said he would not consider the rival past his prime. Now, Aljamain Sterling grazes somewhere along the same lines.
I think Volkanovski is going to put the beats on Lopes, …I would have said that more respectfully had him and his manager not tried to attack me as if I said anything disrespectful to them. I would have been more politically correct about it; I’m going to give them the reason why Volk is going to whoop that a**… Volkanovski is coming with a vengeance. He is in phenomenal shape.

Aljo crossed paths in social media barbs with UFC 314’s Lopes for a while, on the subject that recent foe Evloev deserved the title crack more. However, the former bantamweight champ says his prediction is not biased or prejudiced like that. Sterling just feels that what the more well-rounded “Great” does great is better than what Lopes does great.
Lopes did get past names like Gavin Tucker, Pat Sabatini, Sodiq Yusuff, and Dan Ige in under 11 months only! He also swept out former title challenger Brian Ortega, who gave Volk quite the electric scrap. However, to many, Alexander Volkanovski is a bona fide GOAT and will stay so.
Given his fighting acumen and last few outings, Sterling says Lopes can similarly drown him in KOs in the early frame. Otherwise, he thinks Volk wins it easily in championship rounds. Per DraftKings Sportsbook, Volk has propped up a slight -142 favorite on the money line.
