It’s been a frustrating summer for any Manchester United fan. What started off with an exciting summer planned, has turned out to be a disaster for the Red Devils. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has only brought in Donny van de Beek from Ajax in the window. With a midfield, already filled with a plethora of options, fans criticize United’s spending in the window.
Why have they struggled?
United have tried to sign Borrusia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho all summer long, but have been unsuccessful. With frustrations brewing up, Ole has only brought in 1 of the players he has wanted.
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was after Thiago, Bale, Reguilon and Sancho, and all of the efforts failed. Thiago chose Liverpool, Bale and Reguilon chose Spurs, and Sancho has chosen to stay in Germany.
Solskjaer said, “It’s not as big a pool as for other clubs, because part of Man United and being good enough is one thing. Then you’ve got another club that probably want to keep that type of player of that quality. My focus is us, of course.” He knows the impact Coronovirus has had on the club, “Life isn’t a straight line here. Sometimes things happen.”
However, he continues to remain hopeful and asks fans to be patient, “And transfers, there’s still a few weeks left on the transfer window. It might happen that we get someone in. I work with a club and they know what I feel this team and the squad needs.”
All Manchester United fans can do, is wait and see what he has planned for the season. With Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Spurs spending heavily in the market, it will be difficult to see United compete with them. They play their first game on Saturday against Crystal Palace.
