Novak Djokovic completed the set of major honors in tennis after winning the Olympic Singles Gold medal on Sunday, August 4. The Serb beat Carlos Alcaraz in the final match to capture the lone honor missing from his CV.
After completing the set, the biggest question Djokovic himself can ask is: What’s next? However, the former World No. 1 doesn’t seem to be considering retirement, as he wants to continue due to his passion for the sport.
I know that I have already won all the big tournaments, but I still love this sport, I love competing, training day after day, continuing to improve and taking care of my body. Tennis means a lot to me and I do my best to give back to this sport everything it has given me. I don't know what the future holds, now is the time to celebrate.Novak Djokovic said in his post-match interview (H/T: Punto de Break)
Despite it being a straight-set win in the gold medal match, the final was anything but straightforward. Both players had chances to break in the first set, but none converted. The Serb eventually closed out the tiebreak with a 7-3 scoreline in an hour and 32 minutes.
Alcaraz continued to show resistance in the second set. However, it was Djokovic’s day, as he took the set to a tiebreak again before showing his experience in key moments to prevail.
The records achieved by Novak Djokovic after winning the Olympic Gold Medal
World No. 2 Novak Djokovic achieved his long-awaited dream of an Olympic gold medal with a straight-set win over Carlos Alcaraz. The Serb won in two tiebreak sets to complete the set of tennis trophies won by a player.

With his win on Sunday (August 4), Djokovic became the third male player to win the Career Golden Slam (all four Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal). Rafael Nadal and Andre Agassi are the other players to achieve this milestone.
Djokovic completed the Career Grand Slam by winning his first Roland Garros title in 2016, beating Andy Murray in four sets. However, the Olympic gold medal had remained elusive throughout the course of his career.
Alongside this achievement, the former World No. 1 has also become the second player after Agassi to win the Career Super Slam (winning all four Grand Slams, ATP World Tour Finals, Davis Cup, and an Olympic singles gold medal). He is also the oldest tennis player to win an Olympic gold medal.
