The 2023 year saw a huge increase in the popularity of Riley Gaines. The former NCAA swimmer has been highly active in her fight for women’s safety and their protection from transgender athletes in sports. For all her efforts and hard work, she has now been named the 2023 ‘Problematic Women of the Year‘.

While the name of the award may be confusing, this is actually an honor given to her by The Daily Signal. The multimedia organization has a podcast named ‘Problematic Women‘. These titles are given to women who are trying to fight for the betterment of girls who can then have a fair chance of competing on an athletic level.

Gaines has done just that. The 23-year-old Kentucky native has become a women’s activist and is fighting for the protection of women’s sports. On several occasions, she has taken to her X account and slammed several trans athletes for participating in girls’ and women’s events.

All of this started for her when she tied with Lia Thomas, a trans swimmer during the NCAA Championships. Despite finishing in the same place, the organization gave the trophy to Thomas, something which was not appreciated by Gaines.

Although it’s hard to pick just one, few female leaders acted with more integrity and reached more Americans with a message of common sense than swimmer Riley Gaines. Her determination to be a voice of common sense and truth no matter the cost has rightly earned her the title of 2023 Problematic Woman of the Year.

It is no secret that Gaines is highly active on social media. She recently lashed out at cyclist Kristian Chalmers for openly supporting transgender athletes who finished ahead of her.

Reacting to her winning this title she said:

I was named 2023 Problematic Woman of the Year. A badge I will wear with honor.

Over the year gone by, she has been attacked by a mob, called out by an activist group, and trolled for suggesting to ban trans athletes from chess. Despite all of this, she has testified in several courts against the NCAA and Lia Thomas, slammed various trans athletes for competing against women, and has actively tried to bring out laws to protect women. She really has lived up to the title bestowed upon her.
