Simone Biles has achieved a groundbreaking feat by qualifying for her sixth world championships team. She is also on track to become the oldest American competitor on the team. A woman will participate in the world competition for the first time in over 50 years. The 26-year-old Biles won the overall competition at a USA Gymnastics competition held in Katy, Texas. This victory allowed her to secure one of six spots on the team.

The level of performance exhibited by Simone Biles on the balance beam and floor exercise this time did not match the exceptional standard she set while winning her eighth US all-around title last month. In the overall competition at the nationals in August, Simone Biles received scores of 59.3 and 59.15. In addition, she achieved a score of 59.1 during a previous August event, marking her initial competition following the Tokyo Olympics. Since Tokyo, the Gymternet has ranked these three gymnastics scores as the most outstanding.

Following a strong performance in the Tokyo Olympic Trials, Suni Lee‘s success opened the door for Jones to showcase her talent and potentially outperform Simone Biles in a single-day all-around competition. Thanks to Jones’ second-place ranking at the 2022 World Championships, the possibility became a reality. Had Jones achieved the same scores on the uneven bars as she did previously, there would have been a chance for her to secure victory in the national competition held in August.

However, on Tuesday she only got a score of 13.5, possibly because she made a mistake and her feet hit the mat during her routine. In comparison, last month she got scores of 14.9 and 15. The group will select and announce the names of the remaining members of the global team following the camp competition on the second day of Wednesday night. In anticipation of the World October 1 event in Antwerp, Belgium, one of the six participants will be assigned as a substitute.

Simone Biles becomes the oldest woman to qualify for the World Team

In all events, Simone Biles has made history by clinching victory, as stated in USA Gymnastics records. She holds the record for being the oldest American athlete to join a world team, dating back to at least 1970. The 1966 World competition saw the active involvement of a 28-year-old participant named Doris Fuchs Brause. If Simone Biles participates in the sixth edition of the world championship, she will attend more times than any other American.

She scored 55.7 points and won by four-tenths of a point over Shilese Jones. Even though she fell during her first routine on the uneven bars and her last routine, the Yurchenko double pike vault, she fell backward due to too much momentum.

Potential members for the World Team may consist of the five individuals who were part of the 2022 World roster, including Jones, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, Leanne Wong, and Skye Blakely, all of whom earned medals during the Tokyo Olympics.
