Last Wednesday, former Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines took to X to blast trans athlete Kae Luci Ravichandran for complaining despite winning 1st prize in the women’s category. The runner finished 4th in NY half-marathon and secured 1st place in the women’s category.
Much to Gaines’ dismay the trans runner and medical student lamented his victory, labeling it as “embarrassingly slow” and “out of shape”. The competition took place near Albany, called the Upstate Classic. Gaines criticized his act of humblebrag and celebrated the victory of the “real winner of women’s category” Amanda Aussems.
Following this incident, Kae Ravichandran took to Instagram story to call out Gaines’ criticism. According to Fox News, the trans athlete said, “this is so dumb” pointing out that the runner ran a 71-minute half marathon pre-estrogen and was way slower physiologically.
Blasting Riley Gaines, Ravichandran stated:
“It’s clear that they just don’t want trans people in sports in general, and they actually don’t care about biology. I need to remind myself that these people have nothing better to do with their lives and spend all their energy being bigots.”

Kae Luci Ravichandran further recalled “Just feel like s***” after Gaines took to X to blast the trans athlete. Ravichandran said that others just don’t want to acknowledge the win despite, “18%, my body is physiologically a woman’s body now. Yet they still don’t want me competing.”
Kae Luci Ravichandran’s response came after Gaines noted on X that “the real winner of the women’s category was Amanda Aussems”. Ravichandran wrapped up the race within an hour and 24 minutes, while the 2nd place winner Aussems finished in an hour and 30 minutes.
Gaines took her role as a critic after getting forced to compete with trans swimmer Lia Thomas in the NCAA Championships, 2022. In the competition, the authorities presented Thomas with the trophy as they had only one and chose Thomas over Gaines.
Since the conclusion of that tournament, she along with many swimmers and athletes have risen up to voice against trans participation in women’s sport. In fact, it’s not Gaines’ first time to call out a trans runner for winning in the women’s category.
She also called out Athena Ryan, a trans runner, for dominating the women’s division in a high school conference. Her fight for women’s rights has been celebrated by many on social media, with many celebrities, athletes, and pundits supporting her cause.
