Gadzhimurad Rashidov vs Bajrang Punia

India’s number one bet for a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 is the wrestler Bajrang Punia in the 65kg weight category. Bajrang has been pretty impressive this season but the biggest threat to his championship at Tokyo Olympics is Russia’s Gadzhimurad Rashidov.

The Dagestani athlete finally won the World Championship in 2019 after his three straight appearances in the finals, Rashidov is known for his explosive style and power moves in the wrestling circuit. Punia used to be the top-ranked athlete at the 65kg weight division but Rashidov dethroned him and now sits at the top of the division.

Rashidov used to compete in the 61kg weight category, and after getting two silver medals at World Championship, he decided to move up to the 65 kg weight category, he made this decision just three months before the Olympic season and he won the World Championship gold in 2019.

Rashidov defeated every top contender at his new weight class, he defeated Daulet Niyazbekov of Kazakhstan in the finals on the 2019 World Championship in a one-sided contest, and Daulet defeated Punia in the semi-finals, and because of that people believes that Rashidov has an edge over Punia in the Tokyo Olympics.

The 24-year-old comes from the land of warriors “Dagestan” we all know about the Dagestani wrestlers, and Punia will have to produce something spectacular to get a victory over Rashidov.

Rashidov busted into his new weight class with his explosive style and high-pressure fighting style, every time he competes, he tries to finish the fight against his opponents, and this mentality alone makes him a very dangerous opponent.

Punia is doing this for a long time and he will bring a lot of experience to the table, he will have to stay calm and survive the storm to get this one for his country.

Prediction- Bajrang Punia is one of the finest wrestlers there is, but defeating the Dagestani will be really tough and we think the Russian will win this one
