LSU gymnastic team has increased security for Olivia Dunne and her teammates following the Utah incident

Following the horrid incident at the Utah game, Louisiana State University will take measures to increase security for Olivia Dunne and her gymnastics team. In the first season match last week, Utah defeated LSU gymnasts, followed by shows of disrespect and rudeness by Olivia Dunne’s fans towards Utah athletes.

As posted by Livvy’s mother on social media, Utah gymnast Jillian Hoffman had to face the rudeness and hooliganism of Olivia Dunne‘s fans firsthand. They were constantly rude and mocking towards her when she was on her way home with her mother. The fans even called Hoffman ‘Livvy 2.0‘ in an insulting manner.

Security concerns arose further when the LSU team bus had to witness a crowd of fans, especially young boys swarming near the venue. Police had to be called for extra security and other measures to avoid confrontation with such crowds. According to LSU head coach Jay Clark, the security is planned to increase further.

Dunne’s fans had caused a disturbing scene outside the arena where LSU was facing Utah at Salt Lake City. The scenes were traumatizing for several people, both former and current athletes. Former US National team gymnast Samantha Peszek took to her Twitter (now called X) account and claimed it was a ‘scary’ scene.

This is actually so scary and disturbing and cringey. I'm embarrassed for them...
Samantha Peszek wrote on X.

Furthermore, American sports commentator Kathy Johnson was horrified by the scenes caused by these young teenage boys. While replying to the tweet of Peszek, she wrote that it was “creepy” and “disturbing“.

I was walking out just behind you, Sam, and they were screaming to me, ‘Are you Livvy’s mom? Are you Livvy’s mom?’ Very disturbing. Creepy, actually.
Kathy Johnson wrote on X.

Johnson has also further expressed the dangers of such a blind fan following for the teenaged Livvy fans. She said that as much as they love and adore their favorite personality, they should also know how to conduct themselves at a civil event.

Later, journalist Josh Furlong reported on how the LSU team bus had to be escorted by security for their safety. The team had run into a group of young boys hoarding the bus to get a glimpse of Livvy. Cops had to be deployed as extra security measures for the team.

As coach Clarke says, “We will be working to create a perimeter around where we get on the bus, where we load. I take our team’s safety and security very seriously. LSU will be next facing Kentucky at Rupp Arena, Lexington. The LSU team has not revealed any of their security plans publicly due to major safety concerns.
