One Championship Lightweight champ Christian Lee says he can defeat Khabib Nurmagomedov
The Lightweight division is a topic of hot debate in many MMA organizations around the world. Especially after the UFC Lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement at UFC 254. After Khabib the division is stacked with contenders who are there to claim the Lightweight crown.
But apart from UFC, there are many other organizations that contain some top-level lightweight fighters. One such organization is One Champion and the Lightweight champion Christian Lee is very confident that he is not less than anyone in the world. Lee even said that he can defeat Khabib ‘The Eagle’ Nurmagomedov.
In his latest interview, Lee says, “I believe I’m at the top, Of course, there are many other organizations out there and many great fighters, but I believe in my skill set and I’m confident that if I go up against anyone I’m gonna come out on top. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Khabib and if he is indeed retiring, there is no point in talking about a fight,”
“But I do feel like I have the skillset to beat him. Everyone who’s fought him in the past, they are good fighters, but predominantly strikers and weren’t ready to deal with his grappling and jiu-jitsu.”
Lee is confident to outlast Khabib in the ground game
Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of those fighters in UFC whose ground game is the strongest part of his skill set. With this, he registered a win over opponents like Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje. But Lee claims that he too has a strong ground game.
Lee says, “Khabib’s previous opponents just didn’t have enough depth in their ground game, With my wrestling and jiu-jitsu background, I feel that I would be more than capable of giving him a great fight and getting my hand raised.”
