Ons Jabeur took to her social media accounts to make an announcement on Monday (September 16). She has been forced to end her 2024 season due to a shoulder injury. But during her time off the tennis circuit, she will be doing charity work.

Jabeur has been dealing with injury concerns for a long time and recently pulled out of the US Open, where she reached the final in 2022 and lost to World No. 1 Iga Swiatek. Her last match on the WTA Tour was her opening match against Naomi Osaka in the Canadian Open, which she played after her third-round defeat to Elina Svitolina at Wimbledon.

After Wimbledon, she was scheduled to play at the Citi Open but ended up withdrawing from the tournament. She will remain trophyless this year, but declared that she will be back on the circuit in Australia next year.

This year has been extremely hard for me, and as athletes, we know that recovery is part of the journey. Due to my ongoing shoulder injury, my medical team and I've made the difficult decision to step off the tennis circuit for the rest of the season. While I'm taking time to heal, I'll be dedicating myself to charity work and ensuring that we make a real difference in the world.

Here’s how Ons Jabeur performed in 2024

Ons Jabeur has a 16-14 win-loss record this season and has not won a single title. She started this year by playing at the Australian Open, where she could reach just the second round. After failing to win titles at the Abu Dhabi and Qatar Open, Jabeur arrived in the USA for the two WTA 1000 Masters in Indian Wells and Miami.

Janeur next played the Charleston Open and the Stuttgart Open, following which she made it to the quarterfinals at the Madrid Open. She gave her best in Grand Slams at the French Open by reaching the quarterfinals but lost in three sets to Coco Gauff

During the grass swing, the two-time Wimbledon finalist played decently, reaching a couple of quarterfinals at the Nottingham Open and the Berlin Open. In Berlin, however, Jabeur withdrew due to injury. The 30-year-old currently sits in the 22nd spot in the WTA rankings as she dropped out of the WTA Top 10 in July this year.
