Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey says Novak Djokovic is ‘alive’ and ‘roaring’ as he still reigns supreme

The tennis world is divided between those who think Novak Djokovic is not hungry anymore and those who are not ready to write him off yet. For the latter is certain that Djokovic still has in him to win more, even though the two youngsters Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have taken the tennis world by storm.
Djokovic’s friend, Oscar-winning Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey is confident that tennis has not yet come off the Djokovic reign. McConaughey, who has starred in romantic comedies like ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ and ‘Dazed and Confused’, and won an Oscar for ‘True Detective’, is a tennis enthusiast and a fan of Djokovic.
Though Djokovic had a lackluster year, McConaughey said the 37-year-old still is the best in spite of the emergence of the young talents.
There’s always someone who comes up, and they go, ‘Oh, this is next big thing’. And you look around two years ago, ‘Where did he or she go?’ Yeah, Alcaraz is not a ‘Where did he go? Sinner doesn’t make it look like a ‘Where did he go?’ So, there’s some youngers establishing themselves, ‘We’re here. This is how it’s going’. And you’ve got Djokovic going, ‘I’m still alive, bro’. Roaring over there. You’re not taking my reign yet.

In the eyes of McConaughey, Djokovic is the greatest of all time and was in his box when the Serb won his 24th Grand Slam title at the US Open last year. Then when Djokovic pulled off a five-set thriller against Francisco Cerundolo in the 2024 French Open, McConaughey thought Djokovic was ‘more than a mental machine.’
Tennis journalist explains why Novak Djokovic hired Andy Murray
Novak Djokovic, on November 23, shocked the tennis world by hiring old rival Andy Murray as his head coach. Renowned tennis journalist Ben Rothenberg explained what might have been the reason behind Djokovic’s decision to work under Murray, who retired after his elimination from the Paris Olympics in August this year.
In Murray, Djokovic has found perhaps the only person whose hunger for tennis has consistently matched or even exceeded his own. Despite his failing body, Murray pushed onward and onward, harder and harder, meaningfully jeopardizing his ability to walk in the pursuit of being able to keep playing tennis despite diminishing returns.

Djokovic, following a successful 2023, failed to win a Grand Slam title for the first time since 2017, and Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz shared the four majors between them. The Olympic gold medal was the only title he won this season.
