“Owes me money,” Jorge Masvidal makes shocking allegations against bitter rival Colby Covington, claims the latter used to gamble
Colby Covington- Jorge Masvidal
Jorge Masvidal finally will get his hands on Colby Covington at UFC 272 on March 5, 2022, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. For a matter of revenge, Masvidal has various things to get off his chest against Covington by physically hurting him and one of those things is to get payback for the money that Covington owes to him.
Masvidal and Covington’s bad blood dates back from the time when both of them were finally getting recognised by MMA fans all over the world for their fighting and Covington became the interim- UFC welterweight champion while Masvidal became ESPN’s Fighter of the Year for ending all of his 3 fights via knockout. Now as they headline UFC 272, we are witnessing the first-ever non-title fight in 5 years that doesn’t include the names, Nate Diaz or Conor McGregor in any way.
Jorge Masvidal claims Colby Covington has not paid his current gym for his training
In an interview for MMA Fighting‘s The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Masvidal talked about Covington owning his money and being in debt because of poker gambling. Masvidal was originally asked if the upcoming fight with Covington hits him as the most personal fight of his career. Covington and Masvidal were best friends for 8 years and used to train together at the American Top Team, until their beef after which Covington left the gym to join MMA Masters.
“It’s all business,” says Masvidal “and some of them are just idiots but it’s nothing personal but if it was to be personal this is the closest one(s) you know, and that’s because this individual [Covington] was living in my couch for a year you know, while he was hand broken, he was living of my couch, eating my meal prep, food that they were giving to me because I was already a sponsor math, he was an amateur coming into the world you know…” he continues.
“It just makes it likes a, it makes a lot of things in perspective like you come into this world alone and you probably go out alone as well, you know, and this guy’s a legit snake… the current gym he is at now, they are having trouble because he hasn’t paid finally the couched up money. This guy owes me money, to numerous, numerous loan sharks in South Florida for his poker gambling day so I just hope he even makes it to the fight bro because this guy’s in all types of trouble and I’m gonna be the f**in’ nail to his coffin man.“
What do you make of Masvidal’s allegations against Covington for the latter’s past as a gambler? Who do you think wins between Covington and Masvidal? Where do you put this rivalry amongst the baddest of bad blood in UFC History?
