The Dallas Cowboys, the most valued sports team in the world, with a valuation of over 10 billion, haven’t been quite as successful on the ground as they have been on the business side. The Cowboys, owned by business mogul Jerry Jones, last made the Super Bowl or the NFC Championship game in 1995.

In the franchise history, they have played 67 postseason games in which they hold a 36-31 record. In the regular season, they have a solid win percentage, including the 20 consecutive winning seasons from 1965 to 1986. The Cowboys were nicknamed America’s Team for being one of the most consistent teams in the world. That image has long faded with the loss of postseason success in the recent past.

The Cowboys looked like they were regaining their prime form with three seasons with a 12-5 record and postseason appearances from 2021-2023. In 2023, they finished atop the NFC East and advanced as the second seed. In the postseason, they were matched with the Jordan Love-led Green Bay Packers, the seventh-seeded team, as the clear favorites.

However, in front of the home fans, the Cowboys sustained a huge loss. At one point in the fourth quarter, they even trailed by 48-16. Their quarterback, Dak Prescott, threw two interceptions. The loss was heartbreaking for many fans who hoped that the endless drought was coming to an end. It was the same for Jerry Jones.

In the recent America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys docu-series by Netflix, Jones opened up about the loss to the Packers in 2023. He said, wiping tears:

Oh, what a disaster. This loss hurt us, in every way, more than any one we’ve ever had.

The Dallas Cowboys revels in the memories of the past amid tough times

The Dallas Cowboys, as well as the key NFL franchises, are tapping into the broader broadcast and content market with documentaries and short docu-series. Netflix released two docu-series, America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys, and America’s Sweethearts focusing on the Cowboys.

Amid the splendid visuals of the past glory and heightened dialogue surrounding the same, the Cowboys face a tough time. The team is coming off a disappointing season that saw them win just seven games. The offseason, for a second time in a row, has been marred by contract drama. If it was CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott last season, linebacker Micah Parsons has been holding out from team practices.

It was quite evident that the contract dramas affected the Cowboys when it came to the regular season. The players themselves spoke of the same. Moreover, the Parsons drama is reportedly turning worse as it heads towards a situation where the player is expected to leave the club. It would be very bad for the Dallas defense.

The Cowboys, playing under a new head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, sustained two harsh losses in the preseason already. The games, although played by backups and non-starters, revealed the holes in their roster, especially the defensive side. Parsons’ loss would leave open a huge gap that can be exploited by opposing teams.

Last but not least, Prescott, who’s healthy after a season-ending injury last year, didn’t have much production ahead of the injury either. His chemistry with new signing George Pickens is said to be seen. They have suffered quite a lot from slow starts and that would negatively affect the team this year as well if they don’t iron it out in the preseason.
