Bobby ‘King’ Green has no respect whatsoever for his next opponent, Paddy Pimblett, at UFC 304. The pair are featured in a much anticipated lightweight bout, with Pimblett getting the homegrown advantage in Manchester. Ahead of the fight, bad blood between them has remained quite evident. Now, Green has found a new reason to be mad at Pimblett.
Going into the fight, the UFC has announced custom Sakuraba-inspired orange shorts for Paddy Pimblett. When asked about the same to Bobby Green, the American fighter snapped and went on a tirade against the British fighter. According to Green, Pimblett is a spoiled kid who gets special treatment from UFC. Green was mad that he didn’t get his respect after all he had done for the company.
I’ve done the most for this f*cking company to get my shorts, but this guy just gets to come here, walk in and get them. It’s like, wow! That’s what I’m talking about, that spoiled sh*t. All he had to do was say, ‘Hey, I want my shorts!’ and they gave him his shorts. So now I’m going to kick his a** for that reason. I’m kicking his a** for that and that’s it. Let’s go.Bobby Green via UFC 304 pre-fight presser
Green has been in the promotion for more than a decade and has fought some of the best lightweights in UFC history. The fighter has also been very active, having had five fights in the last year. Green recently convinced Dana White to increase the fight bonus to $100K at UFC 304. However, as the veteran said, he had to go through a lot to get to this level. In the case of Pimblett, things seem to be very fast-tracked.
With only five fights in the promotion, Pimblett is already a huge star and arguably has more fan following than Green. Given the numbers both pull, it is evident that UFC is focused more on the popular young talent. UK fans who have seen Pimblett before UFC know the significance of why the Brit received the custom shorts.
Paddy Pimblett is looking forward to rocking his custom UFC orange shorts at UFC 304
The training camp leading up to UFC 304 was not the best for Paddy Pimblett. The Scouser recently revealed that he was suffering from mental health issues with five weeks away from the bout. However, he pushed forward and is now ready to give a great performance to the UK fans in Manchester.
The orange custom shorts are a throwback to Pimblett’s time at the UK-based MMA promotion Cage Warriors. The ‘Baddy’ won his first-ever featherweight championship in the promotion and was a local superstar. Talking about the new shorts with Sportsnet, the British fighter explained the idea behind his decision in detail.
It's all about the throwback. I used to wear the Sakuraba shorts in Cage Warriors and I never lost in them. I always finished them as well. So yeah, I'm looking forward to flexing the orange shorts again. It's gonna be a blast for the past.Paddy Pimblett via Sportsnet interview
Apart from Pimblett, main event star Leon Edwards also got his custom green shorts with UK and Jamaica themes. The whole UFC 304 card is stacked with some incredible match-ups. Apart from the criticism regarding the unusual timings of the event, the UK fans are excited to bring their wild energy to the arena this weekend.
