The 2025 Genesis Invitational at the Torrey Pines course turned out to be a successful one for the PGA Tour. The event reportedly saw an increase in viewership from last year. Golf social media influencer Paige Spiranac would then proceed to take a swipe at the golf critics.
The sport of golf has seen a decrease in viewership over the years. Both the PGA Tour and their rival LIV Golf have failed to attract the type of numbers many had expected from them. This decrease has led to many criticizing professional golf and pointing out how the sport has “died”.
As per Josh Carpenter, the final round of the Genesis Invitational saw an increase from last year. Ludvig Aberg‘s victory attracted 3.4 million views. This was a 5 percent increase from Hideki Matsuyama‘s triumph in 2024 which had 3.2 million views.
The two years before that the event drew 3.4 and 2.6 million viewers respectively. The 3.4 on Sunday was also the most-watched non-major event in golf since The Players Championship in 2024 (3.5 million viewers).
Golf viewership: CBS draws 3.4M viewers for Ludvig Aberg's win in the Genesis Invitational, up 5% from 3.2M last year (Hideki).

Whereas LIV Golf also experienced an increase in their numbers. Following their deal with Fox Sports, the first event of the season had an average of 12,000 viewers. However, the LIV Golf Adelaide event saw an increase in this with around 249,000 average viewers during the evening broadcast in the United States.
