Pakistan vs Zimbabwe: Zimbabwe emerge victorious in Super Over thriller

Zimbabwe and Pakistan played out a thrilling tied match in Rawalpindi that ended with the former emerging victorious and notching up a consolation win in the series that Pakistan won 2-1. The match was only the second instance of an ODI match going to a Super Over after the Cricket World Cup Final, 2019.

Winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Zimbabwe got off to a stuttering start as they were reduced to 22/3. Mohammad Hasnain was terrific for the Pakistanis as he picked up 5 wickets. However, Zimbabwe recovered courtesy a stunning century from Sean Williams. The innings was a showcase of counter-attacking brilliance. His stunning hitting along with that of Sikander Raza took the Zimbabwean to a score of 278.

Thrilling match ends in Super Over

In the second innings, Babar Azam, the Pakistan skipper was terrific as he notched up yet another century for his side. Azam took 125 balls to score as many runs. But none of the other batters offered support. It was Wahab Riaz’s terrific half-century that took Pakistan close to the target. In the end with 5 runs required off the last ball, Mohammad Musa hit a four to take the match to a Super Over.

In the Super Over, Pakistan were bowled out for just 3 by Blessing Muzarabani who also picked 5 in the chase. The target was chased down with ease by Zimbabwe in just 3 balls. Zimbabwe got a consolation match in what will go down as a classic encounter in their history.
