A renowned yet unidentified Pakistani player has been recently accused of financial fraud, after he failed to pay for three bats that he bought from a cricket store in New Jersey. The incident occurred during the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup last year, in the United States.

Pakistan cricket has been at the center of controversy over the years, owing to the team’s struggles both on and off the pitch. The Men in Green have been criticized for their recent performances, after they failed to make it into the knockout stages of 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, a tournament they hosted. The Pakistani team also bowed out of the 2024 T20 World Cup in the early stages, which was held in the US and West Indies.

However, an unusual controversy has grasped an unnamed player belonging to the Pakistani national team. Pakistani journalist Waheed Khan reported that a player belonging to the team had allegedly purchased three high-quality bats from a cricket store in New Jersey. The incident occurred during the 2024 T20 World Cup in the United States, where the Men in Green played four group stage matches.

The unnamed Pakistani players had promised to pay for the bats before the end of the team’s stay in the United States. However, he backed out from the promise, despite the bats being delivered to New York by the stone owner. The New Jersey store owner did make several attempts to contact the Pakistani player for payment of the bought bats, all calls and messages had reportedly gone unanswered.

While the player’s name is yet to be ascertained by the journalist, the story has definitely sparked widespread debate on social media. Fans have been speculating about the player, who might have been involved in this financial fraud. The names of the batters who were a part of Pakistan’s squad at the T20 World Cup have come up, including Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub and Mohammad Rizwan.

Moreover, fans have expressed concern, claiming that if the allegation proves to be true, it could further damage the reputation of Pakistani cricket players. Pakistan cricket has already been suffering from major financial constraints over the past few years. The board is already suffering major losses from hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy, after having spent massively on upgrading stadiums.

Meanwhile, the Men in Green have been disappointing on the pitch, having suffered six defeats in their last nine matches across all competitions. The team is currently playing a five-match T20I series against New Zealand away from home, in which they trail 2-1 after three games.

Hasan Nawaz’s record-breaking century keeps Pakistan’s T20I series hopes alive

Young Pakistani batter Hasan Nawaz, making his debut in the team’s ongoing series against New Zealand, scored a record-breaking hundred in a win for the Men in Green. The 22-year-old scored a brilliant century off just 44 balls, in a nine wicket victory over the Kiwis.

Batting first at the Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand posted a massive target of 205 runs, helped by Mark Chapman‘s knock of 94 runs off just 44 balls. Responding to it, Pakistan chased down the target in just 16 overs, guided by Nawaz’s hundred and Salman Agha‘s 51-run knock. Hasan’s brilliant innings was the fastest ton by any Pakistan batter in the shortest format of the game, surpassing Babar Azam’s.

Meanwhile, it was the second-highest successful chase in T20Is for the Men in Green, second only to the 208 runs that they chased down against West Indies in 2021. It was also the second highest successful run chase at Eden Park, after Australia chased down 244 at the same venue in 2018.
