Neymar Jr.‘s career has taken quite the hit due to injuries. The Brazilian is currently 32 years old and is yet to play more than five consecutive games for Al-Hilal despite joining them in August 2023. Amidst uncertainty that he will not continue with the Saudi Arabian outfit after picking up yet another injury after his year-long absence, a new club has been rumored to be his next destination.

Neymar’s massive $107 million-a-year contract runs until 2025, with several other perks added into the agreement. However, recurring injuries have resulted in rumors linking the player to his former club – Santos and now Palmeiras as well. However, in a brutal clarification, club President Leila Pereira ‘mocked’ Neymar’s struggles with being fit.

Palmeiras is not a medical department. I do not accept that a player signed by Palmeiras isn’t ready to play immediately.

The President also added that Neymar can ‘go to Santos’ and that she wants players who can start ‘tomorrow’ if demanded by the coach.

Neymar is currently out of action for 4-6 weeks with a hamstring injury suffered against Esteghlal FC.

Inter Miami or Santos: What’s next for Neymar Jr.?

With talk of Neymar Jr.‘s contract being terminated in January 2025, there is much speculation about where the player will end up in the near future. Inter Miami seems like the perfect ‘ending’ as a transfer to the MLS will see him link-up with former teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

However, a return to his roots at Santos is equally appealing for the player, given the attitude of the club President to a potential return.

Neymar can very well contribute to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but needs to remain fit and in contention to be called up. Returning back home to Santos will be a boost for the player’s morale as well, having earlier stated that he is happy and joyful at the club.

The fact is that anything can happen. You can see his joy. He himself says that he is at home here. For Neymar, it could be the best preparation for the World Cup.

Santos President Marcelo Teixeira told ESPN

Neymar’s absence is strongly felt in the National team as well, given the fact that star man Vinicius Jr. has failed to fill in the shoes of the Al-Hilal man.
