The tennis world witnessed another great second-round match at the French Open as Iga Swiatek pulled out a narrow win against Naomi Osaka. The match was an eye-catcher as the Japanese pro was tuning into her vintage self and was on the verge of causing a major upset.
Swiatek, despite winning the first set, was put under immense pressure by Osaka, who even had a match point to her name. However, Swiatek saved the point and pounced on every other opportunity she found before winning 7-6, 1-6, 7-5.

After the match, Swiatek requested the fans to cheer after the game and not during them. While the fans took it well, former tennis player turned commentator Pam Shriver felt that Swiatek did not read the room well.
Wow on that match. Swiatek with another great escape in a second round in back-to-back majors. Maybe Osaka will have a Collins-like run soon. Swiatek did not read the room well by scolding the crowd in her post-match interview. Only crowd criticism should have been empty seats!wrote Pam Shriver on X

Although many felt that she did not intervene and kindly requested the fans to cheer on her right, the commentator felt differently. Nonetheless, the defending champion pulled off a close victory and advanced to the third round of the Slam.
Iga Swiatek sobbed inconsolably after beating Naomi Osaka in a three-hour match
A scare for the WTA No.1 Iga Swiatek as she faced a major upset at the Roland Garros. Naomi Osaka took the fight to the Pole, putting her under immense pressure all the way through. Being as resilient as she is, Swiatek returned from the darkest of pits to win the game.

It was not an easy match for her, as she sobbed inconsolably after the game, indicating the amount of pressure she went through. Furthermore, she revealed how the French crowd can be very challenging.
I got the most frustrated when I missed a volley. One of the balls was flying to me and somebody shouted... I know that I should be more focused and not let it distract me, but at times, it’s hard. I know that the French crowd can be harsh. So I don’t want to be under the radar right now.Iga Swiatek said in the post-match interview
Now, the Pole will prepare for her third-round match tomorrow. With the rain playing spoils, many matches are suspended and more pile on day by day. With no signs of change in weather, there might be a few late-night games in the Open as the tournament is forced to cover up.
