After spending ten years with the Minnesota Vikings, when the veteran pass-catcher entered the free agency market last offseason, he was swiftly taken away from the market in a three-year deal with the Carolina Panthers. But was it Adam Thielen’s first choice?
It turns out Thielen was hoping to join the defending Super Bowl champion the Kansas City Chiefs. However, the team wasn’t too inclined to sign the two-time Pro Bowler and instead, they entered 2023 with a new receiving corps– how that turned out is definitely no secret as they recorded the weakest receiving squad in the entire league of 32 teams.
In a recent conversation with Starcade Media, Thielen revealed how he wanted to join the Chiefs but they rejected him. He responded to a question about how he feels about the next season’s match against the Chiefs in November.
I was trying to go there [Kansas City Chiefs], they didn’t want me. I’m trying to show them what I got.Adam Thielen said
Despite rejecting an accomplished veteran as Thielen and possessing the weakest receiving corps last season, the Chiefs ended up with Super Bowl glory and became one of the only two teams in the league to win two consecutive trophies.
Adam Thielen looks to prove himself again in 12th NFL season
As much as the wide receiver had hoped his first season with the Panther would turn out well, the team finished with the worst record in the NFL of 2-15. Though he couldn’t make an impact, he posted 1,014 yards, 103 catches and four touchdowns.
With the 2024 season, he is entering his 12th season in the league and believes it would be better if he approached the season with a veteran’s mindset. He wants to prove himself again and so is training at a high intensity.
It doesn't change no matter how many years. When you're in years 10, 11, 12, you have to go out there and prove it, right?Adam Thielen said via Panthers’ official website
The All-Pro wide receiver intends to make an impact this season and not mere personal goals. Last season, despite the team’s struggle under Bryce Young, Thielen logged his second season exceeding 100-catch with a count of 103.
