Baker Mayfield suffered a bad injury while playing against divisional rivals, the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers feared the worst.

Mike Evans scored on the Buccaneers’ first drive. A 2-yard-lobbed pass from Mayfield inside the endzone signaled their intent, but it was too early to celebrate.

Baker threw an interception before hurting himself in the third quarter. Carolina pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney stepped on his ankle during a sack. It caused the Bucs to fumble the ball.

Mayfield went into the blue tent but came back moments later. First drive after his return, the 29-year-old threw his second pick and then walked off due to feeling the effects of the injury. Kyle Trask replaced him for the rest of the game.

Baker Mayfield threw multiple interceptions for the fourth time this year

The Oklahoma graduate always had a bullet of an arm with accuracy as its best accessory. However, he also possesses one or two interceptions in him.

After Bryce Young gave the Panthers the lead, the Buccaneers showed urgency, which came back to bite them. In the final moments of the first half, Mayfield tried his best to find Cade Otton, but his pass went left of the big tight end and was picked off by Panthers Chau Smith-Wade.

Mayfield hurt himself and was unavailable for a couple of snaps before making his way back to the line of scrimmage to resume quarterback duty. However, in the same drive, the first overall pick threw his second pick of the night.

With just under five minutes left until the end of the third quarter, Mayfield threw a pass intended for Jalen McMillan, but Panthers Xavier Woods swooped in for the pick and gained more than 25 yards on the play for Carolina.

This was the fourth time Mayfield conceded two or more touchdowns in a game this year. Three against the Saints in game six was the worst, but the Bucs still won the game because he also threw four touchdowns. He was clean for the last three games before the Panthers forced two.

After a brief spell in the medical tent, Mayfield returned; however, the Panthers took the game to overtime after it ended 23-23. Baker led the Bucs to a favorable field goal spot from where Chase McLaughlin secured the victory.

Baker Mayfield finished with 21 completions for 235 yards, one touchdown, and 2 INTs. The Bucs have the same amount of wins as the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC South. In the next game, they will welcome the 2-10 Las Vegas Raiders to Florida.
