Holger Rune is one of the most talented young players to come out of Denmark in recent few years. He is merely 19 years old and has made a distinct name for himself in the world of tennis thanks to his impressive gameplay skills and brilliant performance in recent times. He started his season with a first-round loss at the hands of South Korean tennis player SoonWoo Kwon in the Australian Open. His miserable run continued as he was defeated in the first rounds itself of both the Cordoba Open and the Argentina Open.
In the BMW Open, he played his best tennis and won the title. He then shocked everyone by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the fourth round of the French Open, but could not continue his phenomenal run as he was defeated in the quarter-finals by none other than Norwegian tennis player Casper Ruud. Besides this, he gave a string of disappointing performances at Wimbledon, the Nordea Open, the Hamburg European Open, and the Croatian Open, in the run-up to the US Open.
He lost to Cameron Norrie in the third round of the US Open in three sets. In the final of the Stockholm Open, he defeated his opponent for the second time this year. He will play Roberto Bautista Agut next in the semi-finals of the Swiss Indoors tournament.
Stan Wawrinka has had a tough time as for the first part of the ATP season he was out because of an injury. He participated in both the French Open and the Wimbledon but could impress no one with his play as the lack of sufficient match practice weighed on the Swiss.
After a string of disappointments at the Nordea Open, Canada Open, and US Open, he reached the semi-final round of the Moselle Open, but unfortunately had to retire after the first three games of the match. He was ecstatic at the Swiss Indoors tournament at Basel, as he defeated Casper Ruud and Brandon Nakashima to show his class. However, soon after, Roberto Bautista Agut subsequently defeated him in the quarter-final match of the same tournament.
