Carlos Alcaraz has continued his excellent form since the French Open triumph in June. The Spaniard has yet to drop a set in his maiden Olympics in Paris and displayed an all-round performance to beat Tommy Paul 6-3, 7-6. He will be playing Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals for an assured medal position at the Summer Games.

Likewise, Auger-Aliassime has been playing one of his best tennis of the year. The Canadian is back to his first semifinals since the Madrid Open, where he eventually finished as runners-up. It will be the seventh meeting between the duo in the last three years.

Carlos Alcaraz arrived at the Paris Olympics as favorite to win gold in singles and doubles alongside his partner Rafael Nadal. In the second round, he beat Dutch Tallon Griekspoor 6-1, 7-6, and continued in the same fine fashion with a victory over Roman Safiulin 6-4, 6-2. In his quarterfinal match against America Tommy Paul, there was uncertainty about his response following his doubles loss on Wednesday night (July 31). But, the 21-year-old looked unflinched winning the tie in a straight set.

On the other hand, Felix Auger-Aliassime has carried the Canada Tennis Team hope for a medal on his shoulder. The Canadian had finished as runners-up at the Madrid Open but that was after his opponents had twice withdrawn from the match. He proved his critics wrong by beating American Marcos Giron 6-1, 6-4.

He beat Germany’s Maximilian Marterer 6-0, 6-1 in the second round. He was the second favorite against Daniil Medvedev in the third round and he performed brilliantly to win 6-3, 7-6. He carried the form beating Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 to reach the semifinals of the Paris Olympics.

Alcaraz and Auger-Aliassime are aiming for their first medal at the Olympics. They have met six times, with both winning three apiece. Alcaraz has won the last two meetings including their round of 16 at the French Open this year. The last time Auger-Aliassime beat Alcaraz was in the semifinals of the Basel Open in 2022.
