Carlos Alcaraz vs. Tommy Paul: Match Preview
Matches between Alcaraz and Paul have always been exciting to watch as their touch, skill, and ingenuity are on display alongside their blistering groundstrokes. Paul has become one of the Spaniard’s biggest rivals, having gotten the better of the four-time Grand Slam champion on two occasions.
They have faced off five times and Alcaraz leads the matchup 3-2. Their most recent encounter was at this year’s Wimbledon, where Alcaraz came from a set down to win 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. He then went on to win the tournament after destroying Novak Djokovic in the final.
The Spaniard has won his past two meetings with Paul. The last time Paul beat the youngster was at the Canadian Masters 1000 event in Montreal last year. Their upcoming clash in Paris will be the first time they face off on a clay court. Four of their five duels have been on hard courts and one was on the coveted lawns of London.
Carlos Alcaraz vs. Tommy Paul: Match Prediction
Tommy Paul’s best results have come on hard courts and grass courts as his serve and volley game style is complemented by those surfaces. Clay courts aren’t as welcoming to this tactic and that may force him out of his comfort zone.
Alcaraz has proved himself to be an all-court player and his large arsenal of shots has helped him win Grand Slams on all surfaces. Having recently conquered the French Open and the Paris Olympics being hosted at Rold Garros, it undoubtedly makes him the favorite. Paul’s unorthodox way of playing may help him put up a fight against the World No. 3 but might not be enough to cause an upset.
Match prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in three sets.
