Paris Saint Germain lose 1-0 to Lille in top of the table clash in Ligue 1
Paris Saint Germain players trying to calm Neymar down and carry him into the dressing room after the match
Paris Saint Germain lost 1-0 at home to Lille in the top of the table clash in Ligue 1 as Neymar was sent off late in the game. Lille are now 3 points clear of the Parisians in the French league.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side started the afternoon level on points with their title rivals but ran into a supremely organised Lille side who took the lead on 20 minutes through Jonathan David. PSG are only one point ahead of third-place Monaco, which earlier beat Metz 4-0, and Lyon could move level on points with PSG by winning later Saturday at Lens.
Neymar was sent off in the 90th minute for kicking Djalo and confronted him in the tunnel
Lille went ahead on 20 minutes as David fired under the roof of the net from Jonathan Ikone’s cross after controlling the ball with a soft touch. PSG struggled to create chances despite enjoying most of the possession and Lille threatened several times with lighting-quick counter attacks.
Neymar was shown a second yellow card in the 90th minute for kicking right back Tiago Djalo off the ball, having been booked in the first half for shoving midfielder Benjamin Andre in the face. Djalo was also sent off and remonstrated angrily with the referee.
As both players argued as they walked back to the locker rooms, footage from broadcaster Canal Plus captured Neymar pushing Djalo on the shoulder and then trying to get past some security officials to confront him.
An angry Djalo also reacted, trying to reach Neymar, causing one security official to fall over, while another intervened swiftly to block Neymar and lead him away.
PSG will now shift their focus onto the Champions league where they take on German champions Bayern Munich in a mouth watering clash. Neymar is expected to start the game and needs to cool off steam in the meantime.
