The Australian Cricket Team faced a humiliating loss in the first of the five-match Test series against India at the Optus Stadium in Perth. They were the favourites and raring to go at India after losing the last four Border-Gavaskar Trophies. However, the Jasprit Bumrah-led side humbled them in conditions that were favourable to the Kangaroos.

Pat Cummins, the Aussie skipper, expressed his disappointment over the loss in the first Test. He felt that everyone was firing and ready to perform in the Test match. However, it was one of those games where nothing went their way. He feels that there will be detailed conversations in the dressing room and in the nets before the start of the Adelaide Test match on December 6.

We didn’t give ourselves a chance – a few different facets. Late on Day 1, if we had got through that period, things would’ve been different on Day 2. There’s a lot of experience there (in the batting). This summer it’s a sample size of one. There will be plenty of conversations, plenty of time in the nets. Conversations around what we could’ve done differently.

Pat Cummins said in the post-match presentation

Australia lost the match by 295 runs and were bowled out for 238 runs in the second innings. Travis Head was the highest scorer of the innings with 89 runs off 101 deliveries. Mitchell Marsh played an innings of 47 runs, but they were nowhere close to the 534 run target set by the Indian Cricket Team.

Jasprit Bumrah was the Player Of The Match in the Perth Test

Bumrah led the team in Rohit Sharma‘s absence and was spectacular as a captain and a fast bowler. He picked up eight wickets for just 72 runs in the Test match and broke the back of the Australian batting order in this match. Bumrah scalped five wickets in the first innings and helped India dismiss Australia for 104 runs after getting dismissed for 150 runs.

We were really well prepared so I was telling everyone to have faith in their process and ability. On a given day, experience does matter, but if you have faith you can do something special. Can’t ask for anything else.

Jasprit Bumrah said at the post-match presentation.

Bumrah has played eight matches in Australia so far and has scalped 40 wickets at a stunning average of 18.80 with two five-wicket hauls. To no surprise, Bumrah was pleased with the performance of his side in this Test.

Meanwhile, Sharma is back in the dressing room after he missed this Test due to the birth of his son. He will be back in the XI for the Pink Ball Test, which starts in Adelaide on December 6. In all probabilities, he will replace Devdutt Padikkal in the XI. However, it remains to be seen if India does disturb the opening partnership of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, who did sensationally well in this Test.
