Maroon, a St. Louis native, informed about this decision before the Blackhawks took on the St. Louis Blues at the Enterprise Center. The 36-year-old is currently in the 14th season of his career and his first with the Blackhawks after joining them as an unrestricted free agent last year.

Maroon was selected as a sixth-round pick by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2007 draft. He though never made an appearance for them and made his league debut in 2011 while appearing for the Anaheim Ducks.

After spending two seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, he had a brief stint with the New Jersey Devils. He then joined his hometown team and won the Stanley Cup for the first time during his lone season with them.

Maroon later joined the Tampa Bay Lightning and spent four years with them. During his stay, the Lightning would go back-to-back in the 2019-20 and the 2020-21 season to give him two more Stanley Cups. Following another brief stints at the Minnesota Wild and Boston Bruins, he joined the Blackhawks.

Sometimes you’ve got to give up everything you know and everything you’ve dreamed of your whole life. I just know it’s time for me and it’s time for my family to go start a new chapter in our lives.

Pat Maroon told Blackhawks analyst Darren Pang

The announcement of Maroon comes after the Chicago Blackhawks were officially eliminated from Stanley Cup contention. The 3-1 loss against the Los Angeles Kings confirmed the elimination of the 6-time Stanley Cup champions.
