Political tensions between the United States and Canada have escalated severely over the past few weeks. This tension has made its way into the WWE, especially after the Elimination Chamber PLE. Pat McAfee has been caught right in the middle of this crossfire and is receiving death threats for it.

The 37-year-old posted an Instagram story revealing one of the many DMs he had received from social media users. The picture showed a person cussing him out and hurling insults at him. The netizen threatened to fight the sports analyst any place, any time. Furthermore, he replied to a story featuring McAfee’s daughter and wished death upon him and his little girl.

This whole fiasco began on March 1st, at the Elimination Chamber PLE in Toronto. As is the case with every WWE PLE, the show began with the United States national anthem. During Elizabeth Irving’s rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner, the Canadian crowd began audibly booing the anthem. When she started singing the Canadian national anthem, the live crowd switched moods completely and started cheering.

As the show kicked off, Michael Cole started to hype up the match card for that night. McAfee said that it was truly going to be a historic night for WWE. However, it was unfortunate that the event emanated from “the terrible country of Canada.” This kickstarted a lot of backlash online, and it has clearly reached intolerable heights.

Pat McAfee explains his rationale behind calling Canada a terrible country at the Elimination Chamber

During a recent edition of The Pat McAfee Show, he explained his perspective on this whole situation. He explained his love for the country and how proud he was to be from the United States of America. This country had given his dad the chance to go from being a truck driver to a millionaire. It also gave him the opportunity to reach where he is today.

Pat McAfee had also met a lot of military veterans when he moved to Indiana. The national anthem was very important to them and to him too. Thus, whenever someone booed the anthem, his immediate reaction was to fight them, and that is why he said what he said.

Regardless, McAfee apologized for his comments. He said that he called Canada terrible, and their citizens booed the anthem and sent him a ton of hate messages. Thus, he suggested that everyone put this situation behind them, shake hands, and move on with their lives.
