WWE isn’t quite known to allow their wrestlers to improvise. There are only a handful of wrestlers on the main roster who get the freedom to go live and cut promos without a script. But this isn’t the case with WWE’s developmental roster, NXT. The shows aren’t micromanaged upto the level at the black-and-gold brand as much as they are at the main roster.

Pat McAfee, former punter of the Indianapolis Colts, is currently working on the NXT roster. He is getting the freedom to cut his own promos. There isn’t a bound script that McAfee needs to stick to. Even in his current feud against Adam Cole and the Undisputed Era, he has been cutting promos without scripts.

McAfee recently appeared on Busted Open Radio with Dave LeGreca and Bully Ray. He discussed his time at WWE NXT in great detail. Bully pointed out that how McAfee’s promos seem so natural. It looked like he is just saying whatever comes to his mind.

“I think the way I speak in the way I think is just naturally a promo style of thinking and speaking, so I don’t want to say it comes easy, right, because I think I’ve realized from watching other people and everything like that, that it is a very difficult thing” was McAfee’s response. “But my dumb ass brain happens to be wired in a fashion that it does feel very very natural for me to go out there and say and everything true like it’s a lot easier to say things that are true as opposed to having to make things up so for me it’s just, it has come easy”, he continues.

The hosts of the interview even pointed out that such independence will not be possible on WWE’s main roster. But McAfee said that he has heard that a lot, but his focus is on NXT as they are theones who gave them the opportunity. “… it’s been very, very cool. I owe them a lot of gratitude, obviously, and it’s my job to go out there and hopefully make people either hate me or be entertained and then whenever it’s time to fight put on a g**d*** show.”

Pat McAfee is really enjoying his time at WWE NXT. Someday if the main roster drafts him, it will be interesting to see whether he gets the same freedom. Fans can watch McAfee live every Wednesday on NXT.
