‘ENRAGED’ Pat McAfee set for first-time-ever matchup with former World Champion at WWE Backlash
After getting mauled by Gunther on Raw after WrestleMania 41, Pat McAfee berated The Ring General in an epic rant. They'll collide at Backlash.

Despite being choked out by Gunther last Monday, Pat McAfee was at his commentary desk on Raw. Last night, he stood atop that table and spoke his heart out. After citing his humble beginnings, the 37-year-old cut to the chase. Deeming Gunther an Austrian a**hole, the former Indianapolis Colts punter declared his intentions of getting his hands on him.
One-night Raw GM Nick Aldis, who was on duty for Adam Pearce, asked the College GameDay analyst to maintain his professionalism. Since Pearce had indefinitely suspended The Ring General for his actions, the latter wasn’t there on the show. Aldis, understanding McAfee’s frustration, offered to lift Gunther’s suspension only if the belligerents settled their differences inside the ring.
The SmackDown GM proposed Gunther vs. McAfee for next month’s Backlash PLE in St. Louis, which has been made official. It’d mark ‘The Boomstick’s first WWE match since WrestleMania 39, where he squashed The Miz with an assist from George Kittle. But what McAfee has booked himself into could be devastating for him. He’s about to go one-on-one with someone who’s considered one of the greatest bell-to-bell wrestlers ever.

Since getting called up to the main roster in April 2022, Gunther has only been pinned by Sami Zayn and Cody Rhodes. One could only imagine the amount of anguish in the Austrian since losing his World Heavyweight title to Uso at WrestleMania 41.
That’s why he snapped on Raw following the big event and got physical with Michael Cole, whose brutal analysis shattered the former NXT UK Champion. McAfee then chimed in to save Cole and ended up getting brutalized by The Ring General.
Gunther enjoying time off in Europe amid Pat McAfee feud
WrestleMania in Las Vegas was a major blow for Gunther, who tapped out to Jey Uso. It was an embarrassing way for his first world title reign to end. His ongoing suspension, which stemmed from his brazen treatment of Michael Cole and Pat McAfee, is to allow him some time off after he carried the weight of the World Heavyweight title on his shoulder for months.

As per PWInsider, the erstwhile Walter was spotted in London over the last week, which explains his vacation. However, that’s not supposed to last long. In fact, the fans might see him return to work next Monday.
🚨| Per PWInsider, GUNTHER is currently in London enjoying his break, and the belief internally is that his kayfabe suspension will last 2-3 weeks.

‘The Ring General’ could also re-emerge on WWE programming directly at Backlash, where he’s supposed to take on McAfee. It’d be interesting to see what’s in store for him once he gets past the former Colts punter. He could be moved to SmackDown in the WWE Draft, which is rumored to be happening soon.
Jessika Carr sends a message to Pat McAfee after his Raw assault
Last week on Raw, when Gunther got hold of Pat McAfee, a number of WWE officials tried to intervene and separate them. Not only that, but the entire crew of The Pat McAfee Show was on hand, and the boys actively tried saving their host from the claws of the enraged Austrian.

Female WWE referee Jessika Carr was, at one point, the closest to the combustible elements. As seen in the following post by her, Carr initially flexed her biceps. In a follow-up, she wrote that she indeed gave it her best shot, but to no avail.

The ex-NFL star has a lot to get off his chest. He’s not an established force inside the squared circle but can certainly go when needed. The only concern is his opponent, who may not stop until the Raw commentator keeps getting back up to his feet.
