In Short
  • Pat McAfee criticized Dan Orlovsky for his 'victim' behavior after his integrity was questioned.
  • Orlovsky's promotion of Ty Simpson over top prospect Fernando Mendoza raised eyebrows among fans and media.
  • Despite Orlovsky's efforts, interest in Ty Simpson remains low, with few executives attending his pro day.

Up until a few days ago, Dan Orlovsky was just minding his business and doing his job as an analyst for ESPN. Now, he and colleague Pat McAfee have been dominating football-related headlines for all the wrong reasons.

It all started when the former decided to throw Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson‘s name as the top prospect teams should look at over the consensus top draft pick, Fernando Mendoza, come April.

His earlier claims did not garner much interest at the time, as most fans were focused on the NFL offseason drama unfolding over the team picking at No. 1 overall, the Las Vegas Raiders.

Then, the former Detroit Lions star reiterated his claims while on Get Up, and that set the ball rolling. Soon, others in the media space and fans felt that Orlovsky likely had ulterior motives to push Simpson’s name.

Pat McAfee invited his ESPN colleague for a chat and pointed out that Orlovsky’s Ty Simpson over Fernando Mendoza claims was the reason why everyone was questioning his integrity.

I kinda hate how he does stuff and then plays victim. I don’t like how that happens. But on that note, we love Danno… I think people need to give him a little bit more credit for that, even if he does ask dumb questions like ‘What big games has Fernando Mendoza played in coming off a national championship win?’

This was the former Indianapolis Colts punter’s response on the latest episode of his show after Dan Orlovsky had gone on the defensive and posted a caption about kindness.

Pat McAfee reveals Dan Orlovsky’s ‘petty’ attitude

While talking about Dan Orlovsky’s recent behavior, Pat McAfee reiterated that he and his crew love their ESPN colleague. However, something the former did last night did not sit well with the show’s host.

First time in our relationship history, didn’t answer my FaceTime last night. I think he was a little bummed out.

Pat McAfee revealed

The 38-year-old reminded his colleague that he loves him and admires what he does, but also made it a point that whatever Dan Orlovsky is facing currently is squarely because of his own mistakes.

Criticizing Fernando Mendoza just to trump up a fellow CAA client, Ty Simpson, was going to lead everyone to question his integrity, as the tape doesn’t lie about the former, even though the analyst was projecting it as that.

McAfee understands the reasons why Orlovsky did not answer his FaceTime, but did not appreciate it as such an instance has never happened during their relationship.

Hardly any executives make it to watch Ty Simpson

When the first mock drafts came out, Ty Simpson was touted to go late in the first round or early in the second. Since Dan Orlovsky started drumming up the Alabama quarterback, he hoped his stock would rise.

But as per his own network’s latest mock draft, Simpson is still scheduled to go late in the first round. The network’s resident Chicago Bears reporter, Courtney Cronin, also shared further evidence of the lack of interest in the Alabama star.

Ryan Poles (to the right with AGM Jeff King) watching Ty Simpson throw in Tuscaloosa. The Bears GM is the only general manager in attendance at Alabama’s pro day.

The 23-year-old is still scheduled to work out for the New York Jets, for whom he has declared an interest in playing. But even then, for just Ryan Poles to show up at Alabama’s Pro Day is proof that the interest in the Tennessee native might not be as much as Dan Orlovsky wants it to be.
