In Short
  • Pat McAfee challenged Dan Orlovsky's views on Ty Simpson versus Fernando Mendoza during a debate.
  • Orlovsky's argument for Simpson faced backlash due to his shared agency with the Alabama quarterback.
  • Dan Patrick criticized Orlovsky's preference for Simpson, citing concerns over his limited college starts.

With the NFL Draft approaching, all eyes are on the top picks, with Fernando Mendoza being touted as the de facto No. 1 overall pick. But in the midst of all the discussions, Dan Orlovsky believes Ty Simpson is the better player.

Most of the analysts have accepted the fact that due to the obvious dearth of quality prospects at the quarterback position, the Indiana Hoosiers’ star will be the first one off the draft board.

The Las Vegas Raiders desperately need a good signal caller to work with new head coach Klint Kubiak, and the Heisman Trophy-winner is the best option.

Fernando Mendoza’s performances in the college football championship game have cemented his ‘clutch’ status, and that has made him an obvious choice for the Raiders.

On the contrary, Dan Orlovsky has been arguing that Ty Simpson is more ‘consistent’ in everything he does. However, this has met with some backlash after it was revealed that the Alabama quarterback and the ESPN analyst share the same agency.

So the college football playoffs are a big marketing scam, doesn’t mean anything, these games just don’t matter? What do you mean, what are the biggest games?… You’re talking about traits.

Pat McAfee said to Dan Orlovsky

At this point, Dan Orlosvky pointed to the B1G Ten Championship game where Mendoza’s Hoosiers scored just six points in the first half, which, if it were Arch Manning‘s turn, people would have crucified him. But Pat McAfee and his crew were not having it.

Hearing that argument about the lack of points in the first session in that B1G Ten Championship game, Pat McAfee’s crew replied while pointing this out.

If you go by that, too, Indiana beat Alabama, what, 38-nothing?

Ty Schmit said

As soon as Ty Schmit reminded everyone about this, Dan Orlovsky started to retort with constant ‘no’s.’ But Pat McAfee interjected and said this:

This is why people say you are getting paid to do this.

Pat McAfee said

Even this remark did not stop the former Detroit Lions’ backup quarterback, and he went back to the B1G Ten Championship game to talk about how Fernando Mendoza was not good in the first half.

Now, McAfee reminded his ESPN colleague that the Hoosiers QB took a shot to the ribs in the first quarter while facing a historically great Ohio State defense, many of whom will be the top picks after Mendoza.

Then, the former Colts punter hit the nail on the head when he said how, despite those things, the Raiders’ prospect came back to deliver stunning throws that set up their eventual game-winning score. That is what makes him better than Ty Simpson.

Dan Patrick ends Dan Orlovsky’s Ty Simpson debate

Pat McAfee and his crew effectively ended Dan Orlovsky’s opinion on Ty Simpson. But it was evident that the former QB was not happy with the interaction.

Longtime analyst Dan Patrick, on the other hand, shoved the questions of ‘integrity’ aside, to say this while analyzing what Orlovsky said about Simpson on Get Up.

My big concern is, what, he had 16 starts in college? I don’t want a quarterback who had 16 starts! History’s on my side. I’ve gotta have at least 35 starts.

Dan Patrick said on his show

The former ESPN broadcaster pointed out how quarterbacks with short college careers have essentially struggled in the NFL. Patrick gave Trey Lance‘s example as the best reference of that logic.

Now, both Patrick and McAfee have shut down Dan Orlovsky’s opinions comparing Ty Simpson and Fernando Mendoza. However, expect there to be more as now, his integrity is being questioned with facts.
