In Short
  • Patrick Beverley stated that Damian Lillard is not Hall of Fame worthy without a championship.
  • Lillard has a 99.5% probability of Hall of Fame induction according to Basketball Reference.
  • Fans and the NBA community largely disagreed with Beverley's assessment of Lillard's legacy.

Patrick Beverley and Damian Lillard shared a complicated relationship with one another. The two did not necessarily see eye to eye during Beverley’s time in the NBA, but ironically turned teammates for one season during their time together with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2024.

The former NBA player made a controversial statement regarding Lillard’s Hall of Fame status on the latest episode of the Pat Bev Show.

Hell no! I love Dame, but it’s too many people that get in the Hall of Fame. Second off, Hall of Fame has to be a combination of points, rebounds, assists, wins, playoff appearances, and championships. Like, how are we gonna say no to D Rose getting MVP and say yes to Dame Lillard? If he gets a chip, for sure. But scoring a lot of points on okay teams? I don’t think that gets you into Hall of Fame.

According to Basketball Reference, Damian Lillard has 99.5% probability of being inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame after his retirement. However, Patrick Beverley isn’t on the same page and believes Lillard needs to add a championship to his name to elevate his legacy.

The past year has been difficult for Lillard. He tore his Achilles in the playoffs last year and the Bucks decided to cut their losses by waiving off the 35-year-old. Lillard signed a contract with the Portland Trail Blazers and is back with the club that drafted him in 2012.

Despite being ruled out for the entire campaign, Lillard made an appearance in the All-Star weekend this year. He was named as one of the participants in the three-point shooting contest and stunned the NBA world when he won it, adding to his 2023 and 2024 triumphs.

Fans react to Patrick Beverley’s hot take on Damian Lillard’s Hall of Fame status

It has been nearly two years since Patrick Beverley last played in the NBA. He had a brief stint in Israel and has since been focused on his podcast business. Not so long ago, he was arrested in Texas for 3rd degree felony assault. The 37-year-old is free now and signed a contract with PAOK of the Greek Basketball League.

His latest comments on Lillard’s Hall of Fame status did not take long to go viral, and the internet did not waste any time reacting to it.

The NBA community were quick to debunk Beverley’s statements. With his accolades and legacy in Portland, fans believe Lillard definitely deserves to be in the Hall of Fame when he retires.

Damian Lillard is the greatest player in Portland Trail Blazers history

Drafted by the Trail Blazers as the sixth pick in the 2012 NBA draft, Damian Lillard has made a name for himself as one of the best shooters of all time. Known for his long-range shooting, he is a clutch scorer and is even nicknamed “Dame Time” for knocking down shots at the end of games.

After spending 11 seasons with the Trail Blazers, Lillard joined forces with Giannis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee in hopes of winning a championship. Unfortunately, injuries ruined their chances, and they never made it past the first round of the playoffs in their two years there.

In his 13 seasons in the NBA, Lillard has nine All-Star selections to his name. He was the Rookie of the Year in 2013 and won the NBA Cup in 2024 with the Bucks. He is fifth in the All-Time three-point scoring leaders and is the Trail Blazers’ all-time leading scorer. While he may not have much playoff success to his name, he did take Portland to the Western Conference Finals in 2019. He is undoubtedly the greatest player to ever play for the Trail Blazers.
