In Short
  • Patrick Beverley criticized Dwyane Wade's impact on the game while comparing their three-point shooting stats.
  • Draymond Green and Matt Barnes pushed back against Beverley's comments, highlighting Wade's superior legacy.
  • LeSean McCoy called out Beverley for criticizing franchise greats, suggesting only elite players should do so.

Over the past few days, basketball fans have noticed that Dwyane Wade has been speaking his mind. But when Patrick Beverley came into the picture, the Miami Heat legend changed his tone.

Everything started when the former Milwaukee Bucks star labeled James Harden as the better overall player than the three-time champion.

Beverley claimed that his former Houston Rockets teammate was capable of impacting the game in various ways, which Wade supposedly did not do.

In response, the Hall of Famer came out with a scathing attack, where he questioned Patrick Beverley’s credentials as being nothing more than a bench player.

Instantly, the former Hapoel Tel-Aviv star claimed that his three-point percentage was better than Dwyane Wade’s. Earlier, he added that by that difference alone, and the fact that Harden played against better defenders, the Heat legend is behind the former league MVP.

I will say, Pat Bev coming out and throwing that three-point percentage out was hilarious… Well, Pat Bev, the defense was guarding y’all a lil bit different brother… It’s a little bit different than what D-Wade had to do.

Draymond Green said on his namesake podcast

The Golden State Warriors star felt that Patrick Beverley was wrong to tout his three-point percentage. He pointed out that defenders guarding Dwyane Wade could impose their physicality. That, to him, was not the same when James Harden or Beverley was facing in their time.

NBA champion slams Patrick Beverley for trying to use Dwyane Wade’s name to gain followers

It is not the first time Patrick Beverley has said something controversial. But former NBA champion Matt Barnes noted that this is the first time the former Chicago Bulls guard was saying something without his usual podcast at his disposal.

To me, it was less about the rankings of the players we are talking about and more about Pat Bev’s energy. He gets kicked off his own show, Barstool plays in your face, your partners don’t want you back. You figure, ‘Now, let me try to go viral, let me try to get my own thing going by shooting at D-Wade.’

Matt Barnes said on All the Smoke

The former forward warned that Beverley was doing what fans in general hate about sports media, and that is to go after clickbait content.

Barnes reiterated that the 37-year-old lost his podcast, which he once almost blatantly forced reporters to subscribe to, because of his recent troubles with the law.

The former Los Angeles Lakers star mentioned that he was not taking shots at Beverley’s legal troubles, but did not appreciate the former guard for going after one of the all-time greats in Dwyane Wade, just because he does not bite back the way others do.

Two-time Super Bowl champion emasculates Patrick Beverley for going after Dwyane Wade

Draymond Green subtly asked Patrick Beverley to stop taking shots at Dwyane Wade. Matt Barnes did it in a style he was once famous for in the NBA, direct and to the point. Now comes LeSean McCoy, one of the shiftiest running backs in NFL history.

It should be a crime for try hard players / average – above average players to speak about REAL FRANCHISE GREATS…. America anything is possible.

LeSean McCoy wrote on X

The two-time Super Bowl champion believes that it was criminal on the part of an average player, such as Beverley, to criticize the Miami Heat’s greatest player.

His words suggest that someone should be of a certain stature in life to talk critically about legends of the game, as otherwise, it is nothing but a blatant attempt to garner fame.

The only problem with this statement from LeSean ‘Shady’ McCoy is that his business partner exactly fits the description of the type of players he just criticized. But Patrick Beverley might be sensible not to call that out.
