Prior to the Kansas City Chiefs’ pivotal divisional matchup against the Denver Broncos, Colin Cowherd repeated his earlier warning to Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, asserting that the Chiefs’ dynasty will end following the 2025 season.

The Chiefs entered the bye week with a tough loss against the Buffalo Bills in their own backyard. This result left the Chiefs on a 5-4 record. For context, the Chiefs have already lost more games than they did the whole of last year.

Now they face a Broncos team that not only leads the AFC West with an 8-2 record, but is vying for the AFC number one seed alongside the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts. Interestingly, the Chiefs would miss the playoffs if the season ended today, and yet they are also favorites to defeat the Broncos despite their superior record.

These titbits don’t really matter to Cowherd. The FOX Sports analyst boldly announced that the Chiefs, regardless of how 2025 ends, even if Mahomes wins a fourth ring, the dynasty is coming to an end. Cowherd said on ‘The Herd’.

Andy Reid and Mahomes may win another Super Bowl. But going to the AFC Championship every year, going to the Super Bowl every year, that’s done. They will be good. They will be a playoff team, but you are not gonna get four more trips to the Super Bowl in five years.

In August, Cowherd stirred up the world of football with his wild take on the Chiefs’ dynasty. He added:

I think Kansas City, the dynasty part is over. They may win a Super Bowl, but I think their division’s too good to be a dynasty… Denver is going to be noticeably better. The Raiders are going to be significantly better.

While the Raiders have fallen off the cliff, the Chargers are 7-3, and one win will tie them with the Broncos.

Is the Chiefs’ dynasty in danger?

Mahomes is on a 10-year contract, so he’s not leaving the Chiefs anytime soon. However, Travis Kelce is 36 years old and nearly retired in the offseason. DT Chris Jones is 31 and has shown signs of regression.

Despite boasting rushers like Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco, the Chiefs boast one of the worst run games in the NFL. In fact, Mahomes, with 285 rushing yards, is third on the roster with 4 rushing touchdowns (second most).

The Chiefs have really stepped up during the crucial part of the season, especially after the bye week. Coach Reid holds an impressive 22-4 overall record and a 6-1 mark in the Mahomes era.

The toughest obstacles standing in the Chiefs’ way to success are the other teams in their division. The Broncos under Sean Payton and the Los Angeles Chargers under Jim Harbaugh have proven that they can defeat any team on their day.

With some time to cool off, Mahomes understood the task at hand and what the Chiefs must accomplish on Sunday against the Broncos to get back in the playoff picture.

Mahomes has unquestionably been the Chiefs’ best player. He has completed 64.9% of his passes for 2349 yards and 17 touchdowns. Mahomes holds a 13-1 record against the Broncos, has thrown 332 completions for 3771 yards, and 20 touchdowns.
