Since becoming the Kansas City Chiefs’ 10th overall pick in the 2017 Draft, Patrick Mahomes has only named Arrowhead Stadium as his work address for anything.
That is about to change in six years, as the franchise’s lease with the iconic football stadium is about to expire in 2030. Owner Clark Hunt, President Mark Donovan, and the city’s representatives have been discussing details on a possible extension.
Prime among the Chiefs’ demands was that the city of Kansas, Missouri, would fund most of a planned renovation for Arrowhead Stadium. However, their voters defeated a tax extension that would have funded the $800 million bill.
That led Hunt and his team to speak with Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, who worked to get the funding required to lure the Chiefs 23 miles across the state border.
Finally, after securing a $3 billion 60-40% funding split, with the Hunt family investing $1 billion, the state of Kansas has managed to secure the most-winning franchise of the past decade to become part of its history.
Come 2031, Patrick Mahomes, when he will be in the final year of his 10-year contract, should be playing in the new stadium, which is being touted to be a world-class facility.
The Chiefs are relocating from Missouri to Kansas pending, pending approval.

By doing so, they will leave the stadium that the organization has called its home for more than half a century. Even though Arrowhead was Clark Hunt’s father’s legacy, the change in the funding landscape has forced them to move towards Kansas.
Chiefs hoping to keep the loudest fans record for themselves
In the course of the NFL’s history, two teams have regularly battled to prove they have the loudest fans. The Seattle Seahawks and their legendary No. 12 fans have consistently tried to beat the record.
They braved the cold in 2014 and cheered their Super Bowl-winning team to a then-record 137.6 decibels. In the same season, the Kansas City Chiefs then broke the record with 142.2 decibels. Now, the franchise wants to ensure that the record stays with them.
The design principles will be very specific… It must be loud. We believe there are design ways that we can make it even louder… We wanna make a world-class stadium that makes a statement.
Mark Donovan told reporters
The Chiefs’ President also reiterated that they are investing in this new stadium to give their fans the best experience one can get. The sound decibels, along with state-of-the-art facilities, will help them achieve that.

The fact that he stressed that the stadium designs should help their fans be louder is the Chiefs confirming their interest in ensuring their fans hold the loudest record for a while.
Moreover, this stadium will be an enclosed dome, which will help their fans have the time of their lives. The franchise aims to earn additional revenue from holding other events that open-air stadiums cannot afford to host. Most importantly, they can host a Super Bowl sometime down the line.
Chiefs would hope Patrick Mahomes can continue winning run in their new stadium
As mentioned above, Patrick Mahomes’ current contract runs until the 2031 season. It is not as if the Kansas City Chiefs would want to get rid of him by then, as they know they have a GOAT prospect on their books.

Even though he is currently out with an ACL tear, the timing of it would probably help the franchise design and build a new dynasty. If Mahomes can lead his team into this new era with wins, and most importantly, Super Bowl(s), it would be worthwhile for everyone involved.
Travis Kelce will likely be working with a network at the time, as he is already thinking about hanging up his cleats. If he gets to analyze or call the opening home game of their new stadium in 2031, it would possibly be the best opening the franchise could think of.
