“I saw 40,000 middle fingers on the way to the stadium!” Patrick Mahomes discloses how ‘hostile’ Bills Mafia were to him in Buffalo
After the game at Orchard Park earlier this year, snowballs were pelted at Patrick Mahomes from the stands.

Patrick Mahomes is well and truly into his villain arch. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has been one of the most consistent football players ever to set foot in the NFL. And for that reason, he is not only the envy of other teams, but it also infuriates fans to witness their favorite side lose to him.
After winning two Super Bowls in three years, along with reaching the AFC Championship game four years in a row, Mahomes and the Chiefs are in a similar position to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots were for nearly two decades. Everyone knew that the Patriots would be in the later stages of the postseason.
Mahomes has taken over that mantle, relishing every moment of it except one. It was the day he traveled for the first time in a playoff game to one of their bitter rivals, the Buffalo Bills.
Since 2019, the Highmark Stadium remains a fortress for the Bills, led by quarterback Josh Allen. Even though they have won 58 regular-season games, they have yet to play in the Super Bowl because, on most occasions, it’s the Chiefs that stand between them and the glory lands.
On January 21, when Patrick Mahomes traveled to Orchard Park for the Divisional Playoff game, the 28-year-old felt as if he was entering hostile territory.
I had heard people talking, obviously on social media. [But] I didn’t know how real it was until I got to Buffalo this year, and I think I saw 40,000 middle fingers on the way into the stadium.Mahomes said while appearing on Logan Paul and IShowSpeed’s ‘Impaulsive‘ podcast
Fair to say, the Bills wanted to win the game at all costs.
Patrick Mahomes faced the wrath of the Bills fans after the game
It was another classic game between the two teams aiming for a spot in the AFC Championship game. Josh Allen had recent history on his side over the Chiefs, winning the previous two meetings. However, both of them came during the regular season, and he had never defeated Mahomes in the playoffs.
Eventually, the Chiefs won the game 27-24 after Bills kicker Tyler Bass missed the decisive kick that could have leveled the game. It was a heartbreak that the locals had seen countless times in the past.
After the final whistle, Mahomes was running along the touchline, thanking the fans for coming to support the team. While he approached the entrance of the tunnel, snowballs were thrown at him from the stands. He had to duck his head and run straight inside to save himself.
We go out there and win. I’m trying to hand my headband and sleeve off to a kid, and there are just snowballs flying at me. I’m like, these people really don’t like me. It’s not fake at all.Mahomes said
Despite the jeers, the six-time Pro Bowler and three-time Super Bowl MVP believes that the Bills have a great fanbase. Their hatred for him stems from their passion for the team.
