Kansas City Chiefs slid into another quick win and advanced to the AFC Conference Game for the seventh consecutive year after defeating the Houston Texans. The Chiefs who finished the regular season 15-2 had no qualms in the rather slow game at Arrowhead Stadium.
Despite the low-scoring nature, the game was nothing short of being controversial at all turns. The divisional game has been floated around the conspiracy angles far too many times already. There have been significant errors in officiating, as pointed out by fans and players of the opposition as well.
Amid the furor, Patrick Mahomes, three-time Super Bowl MVP, has landed in one of his repeat issues – sliding and diving.
With 1:52 left in the third quarter, Mahomes executed a late slide near his 35-yard line. Two Texans defenders collided above him in a routine play, yet linebacker Henry To’oTo’o was inexplicably penalized for unnecessary roughness.
Troy Aikman and Joe Buck vehemently criticized Mahomes and the officiating for the unnecessary roughness call in the Texans game.

Earlier, in the first quarter, with 7:00 remaining and the Chiefs facing third-and-8 on their 33-yard line, Mahomes appeared to be sacked cleanly by Texans edge-rusher Will Anderson Jr., who had an outstanding game. However, officials controversially flagged Anderson for roughing the passer, a decision that was difficult to justify from any viewing angle.
Fans call out Patrick Mahomes for flops and dives
Patrick Mahomes, who has decided to be the villain if it means he’s winning, has pulled out the dive card on the Houston Texans game.
The penalty calls and the Mahomes bias have sparked immense frustration among the fans who have called the officiating, “Mahomes Rules.” Furthermore, Mahomes’ actions amid the play are also deemed unsportsmanlike. They have showered their frustration on X, flooding the platform with negative tweets.
Yeah. That’s bad. And I was rooting for KC until that moment. Even with the bogus personal foul calls. But, Mahomes made it obvious. He looked like a soccer player or NBA player. As the Brits say, “he made a meal of it.”

The Kansas City Chiefs now prepare for the conference game against the winners of Buffalo Bills vs. Baltimore Ravens fixture – the former has defeated the Chiefs once earlier in the season. What tactics will Patrick Mahomes employ against Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson as both hunt for their maiden title?
