- Kansas City Chiefs sign Super Bowl 60 MVP Kenneth Walker to bolster their offense.
- Patrick Mahomes expresses excitement over Walker's addition and Travis Kelce's re-signing.
- Chiefs secure wide receiver Tyquan Thornton with a two-year deal, enhancing their receiving corps.
The Kansas City Chiefs have made no secret that they are in rebuild mode, focused on building a team with which Patrick Mahomes can fight and win more Super Bowls.
Gone are the days when they could just add some evolutionary pieces and go to war knowing they had enough in all aspects of the game. That formula did work, netting them the last two Vince Lombardi trophies they collected.
However, starting from Super Bowl LIX, and their playoff streak ending campaign last year, the franchise understood something had to change. GM Brett Veach understood he had to make some major moves to bring them back to being a contender.
Despite those claims, the overall perception was that even if Patrick Mahomes returned healthy, the Chiefs would likely not be in a position to challenge the league’s new elite.
Then came standout cornerback Trent McDuffie and Jawaan Taylor‘s exit, and many thought the franchise was offloading expensive talent. Coupled with their quarterback’s late return, franchise fans were bracing for a down year, during which they could stockpile draft picks for later.

This was the signal caller’s reaction when it was revealed that Super Bowl 60 MVP, Kenneth Walker, had signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. Mahomes’ excitement is evident, as he is about to get one of the best running backs in the league.
Patrick Mahomes hyped after Travis Kelce re-signs
Having Kenneth Walker signals a change in the Kansas City Chiefs’ philosophy, where they would not be overtly dependent on the run game, and instead leaned on Patrick Mahomes‘ ability to hoodwink opposing defenses.

Sure, when he had Travis Kelce in his prime, and a certain Tyreek Hill stretching defensive backfields like rubber bands, it was easy to do that. But now, it has become evident that opposing teams have figured out how to slow the Chiefs’ usually explosive offense.
To counter, they brought in a running back who was not phased by the moment, something that can work wonders for Patrick Mahomes and the retooled Chiefs offense. However, the signal caller still needs receivers he can trust.
Chiefs are giving free-agent TE Travis Kelce a one-year, $12 million deal that has a max value of $15 million, per source.

While the three-time Super Bowl MVP would love to have Tyreek Hill back, the reunion might not be as simple as fans expect. What was simple was to bring Travis Kelce back on a contract that would not feel out of place for both parties.
After signing a one-year, $12 million deal, the signal caller took to his Instagram page to hype his close friend’s return. He captioned images of the two with a clock and a bow and arrow, suggesting his contract restructuring is about to help them run it back at Arrowhead Stadium.
Patrick Mahomes gets up-and-coming WR back
Even though Patrick Mahomes will have Kenneth Walker and Travis Kelce to lean on, he still needs a couple more pieces if the Chiefs are to return to their dominant ways.
While Tyreek Hill waits for a call from his former team, the franchise went ahead to re-sign an up-and-coming speedy wideout. Tyquan Thornton was just a practice squad member before the 2025 season started.
But over time, he grew in confidence and became one of the superstar quarterback’s regular pass catchers. For someone who was let go from his former team, to amass 438 receiving yards from the bench, a career high last season, was some major improvement.

Now, the Chiefs have secured him for another two years, handing out a two-year, $11 million deal. Mahomes reposted this news, indicating he is excited to have someone secured as Rashee Rice‘s future continues to become a question mark.
