The Kansas City Chiefs were almost on the verge of being an undisputed dynasty before the Philadelphia Eagles spoiled their plans in New Orleans earlier this year. Yet, there were deemed unstoppable with second-highest odds for yet another Super Bowl finish. However, that was when the season hadn’t begun.
Flash forward to Week 5, the Kansas City Chiefs just lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars on a primetime Monday night game and are 2-3 on the season. They are ranked third in the division, just above the Las Vegas Raiders, who have just one win so far. It is too early to tell which teams will emerge as the top seven at the end. However, the odds right now aren’t too favorable for the Chiefs.
The Chiefs were remarkable last season when it came to making big plays in the crucial moments and winning these closely contested duels. On Monday night, they did an okay job, but there was one too many mistakes. The Chiefs’ future HOFer quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, threw a pick-six when Devin Lloyd made his fourth interception of the season and ran 99 yards to add six points on the Jags’ side of the scoreboard.
They also had 13 penalties in the game, including one that could have sent the game into overtime. Mahomes addressed these mistakes in his press conference following the loss.
We have the guys and we’ve executed at certain points in games and looked really good, and then we crush ourselves with penalties and mistakes and interceptions and fumbles or whatever that is.
Patrick Mahomes said
The quarterback added that the trend is not limited to just the loss against the Jags. Furthermore, he mentioned that such losses in close games will affect the team in the long run. He concluded with regret at losing one too many such games and a promise to do better.
The ManningCast had an absolutely dramatic reaction to Patrick Mahomes’ pick-six against the Jaguars
The Kansas City Chiefs had one of their best performances in terms of offensive numbers, but weren’t able to regain the winning record for the first time in the season. The 2-3 start is very alien to the Chiefs in the Patrick Mahomes era, considering it is happening only for the second time.

The highlight of the Mahomes’ game was the pick-six, more so because Devin Lloyd ran 99 yards. The ManningCast, brothers Eli and Peyton Manning, and their guest, and Kansas City Chiefs fan Heidi Gardner were all unbelievably shocked to see Mahomes being picked. Gardner quickly quipped, “No, No, No, not that,” as soon as she spotted the interception.
The Mannings then showed her the footage of the exact moment her heart broke, allowing her to witness her own reaction in real time. Wearing a red Chiefs sweatshirt, Gardner couldn’t stop laughing at herself.

Meanwhile, Peyton Manning said, “Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no.” He also gave the former SNL cast member a little credit for correctly predicting the ball’s intended direction, even though it never actually made it there.
Heidi, I think Lloyd heard you say Juju. You did not predict that. He ran right into it, right in front of Juju. That’s who he was throwing to.
Peyton Manning added
Heidi Gardner was not the only celebrity face in the Manningcast on Monday during the Chiefs versus the Jaguars. The Manning brothers had Glen Powell, who’s set to play a double role of Chad Powers and Russ Holliday in the currently-running series Chad Powers. The series is based on Eli’s Places segment by ESPN and Omaha Productions.
