Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly re-signed WR JuJu Smith-Schuster after the New England Patriots released the 27-year-old ahead of his contract closure. Smith-Schuster played a part in the Chiefs’ 2022 Super Bowl run, generating 933 yards on 78 catches with 3 touchdowns, second to only Travis Kelce.

In the last season, Smith-Schuster played 11 games, from which he accumulated 29 catches for 260 yards with a single TD. Bill Belichick brought Smith-Schuster to add more offensive depth to the Patriots in 2023. However, before Smith-Schuster could find a wavelength, he sustained ankle and knee injuries and a concussion. The Patriots have been struggling a lot for some time now, with the Mac Jones and Bill Belichick drama being just the tip of the iceberg.

JuJu Smith-Schuster can now bid adieu to the “cooked” comments as he joins the defending Super Bowl champs. Now the Kansas City Chiefs, looking to create NFL history, gets even stronger with the addition of Smith-Schuster to aid Patrick Mahomes. The TikTok Boy, alongside Rashee Rice, and Xavier Worthy, are looking really dangerous for the next season.

NFL Insider Jordan Schultz tweeted

Spotrac reports that JuJu Smith-Schuster is being signed for the veteran’s minimum in 2024 at $1.21 million. The Patriots will still have to pay $7 million, minus what he earns with the Chiefs. The deal has worked out well for the Chiefs, who gained an experienced addition to their depth at a low cost.

JuJu Smith-Schuster will be a cool addition to a cracking depth

The JuJu Smith-Schuster addition will be rather important to KC’s cracking WR depth. Marquise Brown, whom the Chiefs brought in this off-season as a free agent, met with an injury in their first preseason game. Brown sustained a sternoclavicular joint injury and will be out of play for some time.

Rashee Rice, on the other hand, could possibly be suspended. The rookie had an off-season for the ages including a hit-and-run car crash as well as an assault case. Although the assault charges remain dropped, the same can’t be said for the crash incident. The internet is already calling Smith-Schuster, “the Rice insurance.”

The Chiefs will start their title defense on 5th September at the Arrowhead Stadium against the Ravens in the NFL 2024-25 kickoff game. In their last head-to-head matchup, the Chiefs defeated the Ravens and qualified for the Super Bowl game.
