DeAndre Hopkins has been a stellar wide receiver throughout his career. But his last stop with the Tennessee Titans, was a sorry situation as he was part of a struggling team. Now with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, he has had a new lease of life as a football player.
In the two games so far, the star receiver was slowly getting accustomed to the new system under head coach Andy Reid. But considering his experience and knowledge of the game, it did not take long for him to figure out how Patrick Mahomes is at playing the quarterback position.
That materialized today in the Monday Night Football showdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With four minutes left in the second quarter, Mahomes took a few steps back and threw the ball down the middle into the end zone.
The recipient was none other than their newest wide receiver who just broke free from the shadow of his defender to get open. But even then, as it was near the end zone, Hopkins had to improvise and touch both his feet down.

For any football player, scoring a touchdown with a new team is always something to celebrate. But little did fans at the Arrowhead know what the entire offense had in store. With the ball still in his hands, DeAndre Hopkins started to perform the dance from the movie, ‘Remember the Titans’.
But he was not alone as first Travis Kelce, his offensive lineman and then Patrick Mahomes came in to join. The dance though was to rub his former team, the Tennessee Titans in the best way possible. As the perennial Pro-Bowler seemed to indicate that he wasted his years there.
DeAndre Hopkins fast becoming Patrick Mahomes’ No.1 receiver
With the game close to finishing, both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are neck and neck. But this game so far, has been the best for DeAndre Hopkins’ short life with his new team. The first game against the Las Vegas Raiders was just to ease him into the offensive system.
But tonight, he was clearly at the top, leading all his receiving teammates for much of the game. What was notably better in this game, was that Mahomes and Reid seem to have designed plays to get the best out of Hopkins.
He is neither a burner nor a physical receiver. What he does best is separate from defenders and make contested catches. The Chiefs have not had this type of receiver before, suggesting it is a bigger adjustment for Mahomes.
But he would not mind one bit of it, as this gives the Chiefs a different dimension to their offense. Now their opposition will have to field counterplays to take away both types of threats. Something that his second touchdown of the game proves.
