Jayden Daniels believes in the ‘enemy of my enemy is my friend’ philosophy. He had his answer ready when Shannon Sharpe asked him to pick between Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs and Jalen Hurts Eagles to win Super Bowl LIX.

It’s Super Bowl week, and even though Daniels will not be playing in the Super Bowl, he joined Sharpe and former Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco Johnson on their podcast Nightcap from New Orleans on Wednesday. The Hall of Fame tight end asked Daniels to choose between Mahomes and Hurts as the winner of Super Bowl 59.

It’s gonna come down to whoever’s got the ball last, I think so. Obviously, Saquon Barkley and they do, Jalen Hurts, and you got AJ Brown. And on the other side, you got Pat [Patrick Mahomes]. It’s hard to bet against Pat.

“I think it’s hard to bet against Pat; I can’t say. Rightfully, I love playing the Eagles. They are in the division but I think it’s hard to bet against Pat,” Jayden Daniels said.

The second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft played twice against the Eagles in the regular season as they belong in the NFC East with the Commanders. Daniels posted a passer rating of 93.0 with 449 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions (1-1 record).

He faced the Eagles for the third time when the two teams met in the NFC Championship game in January. Daniels completed 29 of 48 passes for 255 yards and two overall touchdowns but lost the game 23-55 as Jalen Hurts contributed four overall touchdowns of 246 yards (71% completion rate) while Barkley rushed for 118 yards and scored three touchdowns.

NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year favorite

Daniels may have lost out to Hurts and the Eagles, but he still had a stellar first year in the NFL. Some even consider Daniels had the best rookie season ever. He played all 17 games for the Commanders in the regular season, posting 331 completions for 3568 yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions along with 148 rushes for 891 rushing yards and 6 rushing touchdowns.

In three postseason games, Jayden Daniels contributed 75 completions for 822 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception, along with 35 rushes for 135 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

According to SportsBettingDime.com, Daniels is the favorite to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award, edging out ex-LSU teammate and Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., who recorded 87 receptions for 1282 yards and ten receiving touchdowns.
