Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs were dealt their first loss of this NFL season last week. Heading into today’s road game against the Carolina Panthers, they knew they could bounce back considering how badly the Bryce Young led team had been playing.
That was how it looked up until a little more than three minutes left in the game. At that point, the Chiefs led the Carolina Panthers by a full score. On top of that, their defense was brimming with confidence after playing extremely well all game.
But with a shorter than usual field to work with, Bryce Young started to carve up some yards with some short throws. Then a pass interference set up a touchdown from Chuba Hubbard. If only Patrick Mahomes had not run 33 yards to set up the game-clinching field goal.
Their opponents were good enough on defense and could have given the ball back to Bryce Young. He had played well enough all game to keep his team in the hunt. Patrick Mahomes was asked about the young quarterback’s play at the post-game press conference.

The Chiefs superstar quarterback had nothing but praise for the young quarterback. Considering the season he has had so far, this was arguably one of the best performances from him. He also ended up doing something only two other QBs have done so far this season.
Bryce Young one of three QBs to do this against Chiefs
The most impressive part of the Kansas City Chiefs stellar run of games this season has been their defense. Their unreal play has helped mask Mahomes and the offense’s struggles and sit at the top of the league.
Prior to today’s game, only two quarterbacks had managed to score 25+ points against them. Joe Burrow and Josh Allen were the only QBs to do that against that defense. Today, Young joins that elite group in their 27-30 loss.
If anything, the Alabama product should see his confidence boost up quite a few notches. That confidence was lacking in him the entirety of his rookie season and in his first few games. In retrospect, it seems his benching has had a positive impact on the 23-year-old.
